I’m leaning towards getting a MM device, but I have an idea and would appreciate thoughts from those of you who wear them on whether this is practical.
I prefer to keep the cuff ring on constantly, even when not using the cage. However, with standard MM devices, the central post can be obstructive or potentially hazardous. I know that post is welded down because there aren’t other ways to prevent the cage from rotating—unlike models such as the CBxxxx which use guide pins.
The cuff rings appear to have a profile of about 1/4”, meaning they seem constructed from a 1/4” bar bent into a circle. Would it be feasible to weld a smaller ring onto the top of this cuff ring to hold a 1/4” guide pin? To prevent rotation, you could secure it with a security screw similar to those used on the cage side. It would need to be drilled and tapped so the pin enters from above, keeping the locking mechanism steady.
Do any MM users see an issue here? Shifting the pin height by 1/8” upwards from center—would that impact how well it fits or secures things? If yes, can we adjust the corresponding part of the cage to make room?
What about rotation? Do you think this setup would keep the cage stable? I assume there isn’t much twisting involved, but since I only have CBxxxx models for comparison, I’m unsure how it holds up over time.
Is there anything else I might be overlooking?
I've been thinking along the same lines. My ring is actually a two-piece design (I was concerned about being able to get it through such a small opening). ... b-47p.html During our last session, I had the 45 mm ring on. I was so excited that it wasn't coming off easily at all. So, I simply pulled out the pin but left the ring in place. It worked wonderfully. Whether two-piece or solid, I would really prefer rings with a removable pin. With Steelworxx devices, this is straightforward since they already feature guide pins. It doesn't seem like there should be any problem modifying Mature Metal devices in exactly the same way? GungaDN

Tom, Having bought two MM Queens Keep devices, I can offer some insight. The key to a proper fit and stability is getting the distance right between the bottom of the cage and the bottom of the base ring. An ideal measurement here firmly grips the scrotum without being overly tight. It's somewhat counter-intuitive: if you keep the same base ring size but choose a smaller cage diameter, you might inadvertently increase the gap between the cage bottom and base ring bottom, causing a loose fit. If you raise the cage as your mod suggests, you may need to select a larger cage diameter to close that gap again, or perhaps opt for a smaller overall measurement. This detail often gets overlooked during measuring. The best test I can suggest is finding your ideal base ring first. Then take your cage diameter ring and hold its top at the height it would be after your modification. Slowly push the inner ring toward the base ring until you achieve a firm fit with both rings parallel, aiming for roughly a 1/4 or 3/8 inch gap. It's not simple to do manually. If you have that perfect fit with your CB-3000 model, consider measuring the distance from cage bottom to base ring precisely. Regarding twisting: The MM device does move slightly. Mine shifts between the 12 o'clock and either the 10 or 2 position, no further. I'm not entirely sure why, but it doesn't bother me comfort-wise; it might just be interacting with clothing. I usually leave just the base ring on after removing the cage. Sliding the base ring around until the locking post clears my shaft and scrotum is as easy as turning a wedding band on your finger. This might have confused more than clarified, but custom devices involve many variables where every piece can be adjusted. Changing one measurement affects another. Please ask if you need further clarification. It's somewhat of a gamble, but getting it right yields great results. Don't worry too much if you don't nail it immediately.

In order to keep it from rotating, you could hold it in place with the same kind of security screw that you use on the cage side of the device. It could be drilled and tapped to go in from the top and would hold the locking pin in place. Yes, I can see how that works. The main concern for me is tolerance stacking. There's already some movement possible with either the lock or security screw. Personally, I found the actual lock holds the cage tighter than the security screw does. What you're describing seems like adding a second joint similar to where the cage meets the post. There have been several discussions about moving the pin to the top of the ring. Thumper wrote a blog post covering this issue quite well. I know MM has done this at least twice before. There isn't excessive twisting normally, though this modification might add some. It's hard to quantify whether that extra movement causes any negative effects. My gut feeling is that it might not be a perfect long-term solution, but I lack concrete evidence for that opinion. The quality of craftsmanship on the new joint will likely determine success. I received a brief note from MM regarding my comment about a removable pin. They were confident they could arrange it. I believe guide pins would be an excellent addition to eliminate the twisting problem. Adding a round stock ring would definitely improve comfort. It is unfortunate if you want (or need) to keep the "A" ring on and then have to worry about the post damaging my KH. I spin the ring halfway around for some protection. Currently, I'm drafting a rough sketch to see if MM can modify the Pet-Trap that I currently own.
I had to register just to reply here. Over the last two years, I bought three MM devices and finally got it right. Being High & Tight helped me realize that having a top-mounted post on the main ring was key to success. I hadn't realized this option existed before. The side-mounted posts were causing endless frustration because they put too much pressure on the front of my scrotum (making it look like a football). I tried every combination of ring sizes, spacing changes, and shapes. I am currently using the Queen's Keep model and ended up with three extra rings plus a Jailbird cage that turned out to be slightly small. Hope this helps someone. It was an extensive—and costly—journey without giving up, but I finally won. Uh oh....
Tom, try emailing MM directly with your question. They made a custom device for me that isn't part of their standard stock items. It involved quite a few emails back and forth. Once we were happy with the design, it arrived exactly as I hoped. If there is something he cannot do, he will tell you honestly.
