A Documentary on the World of Male Chastity
I’ve been drawn to the world of Male chastity for a good number of years, and I’m curious what other members think about creating a documentary on this…
I’ve been drawn to the world of Male chastity for a good number of years, and I’m curious what other members think about creating a documentary on this topic? It would be great to see couples who live this lifestyle interviewed, ranging from vanilla approaches to extreme practices, regardless of whether they are straight, gay, bi, swingers, or any mix. I’d also love interviews with the people behind popular devices like CB-X, Steelworxx, Mature Metal, Birdlock, Dream Lover Labs, and others. Plus an interview with Sarah Jameson, author of Be Careful What You Wish For. How large does the community need to be before a director takes on such a project? Does anyone else want to see this become reality? I realize it might not be the most thrilling documentary ever made, but many less provocative topics have already been covered in that format.

Unlike tattoos, which are primarily meant to be seen and admired by others, chastity is deeply personal, practiced for many different reasons. Living in chastity isn't about being perverse. Aside from perverts, I don’t believe individuals or couples would want to show their bedroom activities or chastity play on television. I worry these documentaries will end up looking more like porn than genuine docs. Those who enjoy cheap thrills watching others' chastity journeys should try it themselves and find much greater satisfaction.

I do feel, however, that many people who would be excellent interview subjects tend to be quite shy about putting themselves forward regarding their lifestyle, so I'm uncertain how far such a project would get...

Too often I get the impression that these documentaries are just ways to offer a bit of titillation in a more socially acceptable package, similar to how soft-core porn was marketed as "social research" back in the 1960s. That said, there are a few opportunities for you to hear about others practicing this. A sociologist in Australia has a book titled *My Other Self*, and an ongoing blog where she interviews various alternative lifestylers (I'm on it, by the way). If you search carefully through Fetlife, you'll find someone - I can't recall her name exactly - who has been conducting podcast interviews with various kinksters, including those who use chastity or OD. These interviews aren’t specifically aimed at vanilla users, but it’s hard to imagine one that wouldn’t be perceived as proving that chastity practitioners are even more perverse, or simply weird.
It’s an intriguing idea. I would definitely watch the documentary, but I’d be quite disappointed if everyone's face were cut off or blurred in the final edit. That would feel rather unsatisfying. There is something too personal about this for me to open up and speak freely about it among even friends and family personally. I wouldn’t mind having friends, some selected family members, or possibly co-workers know that I am kinky or into BDSM if that were my thing. However, I would very much dislike the general public knowing about chastity. To me, it is just too personal to reveal beyond a carefully chosen audience. I can't quite explain it, but chastity feels more intimate than activities like BDSM. The "sub-culture" aspect has become so widely recognized as mainstream now that it no longer seems bizarre; the kinds of people who think it is weird and totally off-the-wall are not really the types I would want to be friends with anyway. Also, if my co-workers or boss found out about it, I could quite possibly litigate against them if anything unfair or discriminatory happened to me. With chastity, however, it’s different; it feels like exposing a solemn and sacred promise between my wife and me to the whole world, which makes me feel naked in a truly scary way. Although I have no desire to expose myself publicly, I’m not afraid of public nudity itself, but this specific exposure worries me. I guess that is what I want to keep private; everyone wants certain things kept secret or personal. But I don’t think the chastity community would benefit greatly from having a bunch of people like me - who wish our faces were blurred - being interviewed. Not that I even feel qualified to answer the question, "Are you experienced?" with a yes yet... anyway.
Oh dear! PLEASE, no more "reality" films!!!! Are you serious? The only reason a producer would want to create a documentary on this topic is to exploit the lifestyle for quick cash and fleeting fame. The last thing I ever want is for male chastity to be thrown out into the public eye for their viewing pleasure or criticism. I can just picture the media going wild over it: "Just one more question, Mr. Romney; being a Mormon and knowing that CB male chastity devices were invented by Mormons, could you share your view on Male Chastity? Are you wearing a device, sir?" What purpose does making a documentary serve for this topic? A book would be a better idea....I don't know about you, but I am tired of having my values exploited by the greedy...just saying...
If my wife ever found out that I contributed to an HBO-style documentary and went public with our chastity lifestyle... well, let's say it would be a deal breaker. Heck, she isn't even thrilled when I blog about us.:roll: I tell her it is only for "educational research":lol:
Wow, those are some really good points that I hadn't really considered. Perhaps overall, it wouldn’t be such a great idea after all. I guess I got too excited before thinking through the repercussions.

A few years ago, Dan Savage was asked to do a TV show, and the production company spent some time looking for various kinksters, including chastity fans. Somebody gave them my name, but because the show was based on the West coast, it didn't work out. I sent over some information, but I don’t know whatever became of it.
On the contrary, I do see this as something that WOULD love to be brought into the mainstream. To the question asked: "would this make a great documentary topic?" Yes, simply because the amount of time, dollars and thought invested in this little corner of the world must be worth capturing somehow. Regarding the question of "how to make it seem less pervvy, or watered down, or driven by greed and self-promotion?" Those are open questions still. I would be very interested to know from device makers - how many of us are out there? In the US? Europe? Elsewhere? History, and the very recent evolution and contribution of bloggers, quality device manufacturers, and wacky books and websites on the subject offer much content. There is a lot of new and raw experience here; some aspects have greatly enhanced my personal relationships, while others have challenged what we thought we knew. It would be great to find a way to explore this topic and discuss broader implications on a platform that doesn't jeopardize what already works well for us, perhaps even encouraging more people into the mix. Honestly, I view this as primarily a psychological/human sexuality research article first, and a documentary second. But certainly understand all the "how-to" concerns as well - btb
Lol. I can never see this being accepted into the mainstream. We men are far too attached to our penises and way too selfish to surrender control en-mass. It is a fun kink, certainly. But it will never be a true culture shift.
