I recently came across kelmag’s piece on the scientific basis of male in men. It’s available at this link [ … otion.html] I’m confident this topic has come up here before, but anyone who hasn’t seen it will likely find the details quite engaging. Most of the points raised apply perfectly to me and my dominant wife. I was unaware that such fascinating biochemistry underlies our thoughts and physical states. This discovery has deepened my commitment to a [[chastity]] way of life.

I just finished kelmag’s blog post! I always suspected there was something about being chaste that left me feeling wonderful, and this explains it perfectly. I can connect with the refractory phase because I’m still working through mine after allowing myself three [[orgasm]]s over the weekend. Happy to be locked up again!

The Kelmag blog is excellent; my keyholder read it, and it reinforced her determination for me to stay in [[chastity]] forever. It also prompted her to adjust my [[release]] schedule from weekly to monthly. Usually, she lets me have an [[orgasm]] once a week, but after reading the science on chastity, she has shifted this to a monthly release... which I’ll need to adapt to, even though I don’t really have a choice.... It all makes sense, yet just thinking about only being allowed one [[orgasm]] next month—since I was released last Sunday—is slightly intimidating. However, it feels refreshing to see her control and authority over my sexuality strengthened. Plus, she is determined for me to remain in chastity permanently, which impacts any free time I used to enjoy—a day out uncaged followed by returning to [[chastity]] at night now seems less likely unless I’m in her presence.... This means zero privacy, but I am fine with that; I love her control over my sexuality and understanding the main reason for [[chastity]]... really solidified it. Great forum members:)

That post was from 2010. I believe it captures what many of us hope is true. Sorry to disagree, but I’m not convinced by the so-called science. I think the positive changes are largely due to behavioral psychology. Simply put, enforced [[chastity]] opens a new pathway for sexual communication. It also creates an explicit power exchange where the keyholder has permission to manage sex for both partners. This is a significant shift for most of us. The increased abstinence comes from our conditioning to separate ejaculation from our sexual expectations. Our hormonal levels don’t change, I am certain of that, although there are no reputable studies I can find measuring long-term biological changes associated with [[chastity]] and [[abstinence]]. While I appreciate his post and its effort to rationalize our kink, I think it isn't entirely accurate.

There is some scientific basis for the refractory period after an [[orgasm]], and the drop in dopamine following ejaculation has been documented, as with celibacy... I’m sure it levels out. My question is how does this improve or reduce testosterone production? As men, we are driven by 'big T'; low libido and low T go together. I receive T injections every two weeks because a pituitary tumor affects the brain's signals to produce enough T, and doctors recommend regular [[orgasm]]s to help stimulate more T production. Shifting my [[orgasm]] from weekly to monthly will increase my 'horniness factor,' and it would be interesting to test if my natural/free T levels are affected. Currently, I actually feel better in [[chastity]] than on the injections—is being chaste with teasing/stimulation/denial reducing my need for external T? Or are my dopamine levels rising high enough to partially replace T? Certainly without sufficient T, I tend to become down and depressed; however, in [[chastity]], I haven't had a 'down' day... If [[chastity]] does contribute to dopamine production, we might have found a link that delays the early onset of Parkinson's disease, which affects our brain's dopamine system....:geek:

Is there a connection between testosterone and dopamine? I don’t think so. But you have an interesting idea. Will less frequent [[orgasm]]s and continued teasing affect both hormones? What would having one every three days do in comparison? The refractory period is usually quite pleasant, which fits my experience if you can get an endocrinologist to collaborate with you; it could be insightful to measure your testosterone levels as you experiment with continuous teasing but varying wait times for [[orgasm]]. Perhaps you can find the 'sweet spot'.

Actually, there is a direct relationship between Dopamine and Testosterone: I quote: "Dopamine and testosterone have a direct relationship. Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, plays a role in many different functions including cognition, movement, and feelings of pleasure and reward2. The relationship between dopamine and testosterone stems from the interaction both have with prolactin. Prolactin is a hormone that has many different roles including sexual gratification. The release of prolactin from the pituitary gland is ultimately controlled by pituitary releasing hormone (PRH) produced by the hypothalamus. The increase in prolactin leads to a decrease in testosterone production in the leydig cells of the testes. The activity of PRH is countered by dopamine, which is also released from the hypothalamus. An up-regulation of dopamine stimulates the release of prolactin inhibitory factor (PIF). PIF inhibits the pituitary from releasing prolactin. Because prolactin inhibits gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion, the inhibition of prolactin caused by dopamine, increases the secretion of GnRH, therefore increasing the secretion of testosterone 3..." end quote .. and so there may be some science behind [[chastity]], as prolactin levels supersede post-[[orgasm]] dopamine levels and hence inhibit T levels. Therefore stimulating Dopamine levels through extended [[chastity]]/denial of a male [[orgasm]], may explain why we feel good NOT having an [[orgasm]]. Tease and denial act like a drug, i.e., Dopamine production which inhibits prolactin, and hence T levels remain higher:geek:

Glad my article has sparked some thought and discussion about [[chastity]]. It is now almost five years since I wrote it, and our marriage and sex life continue to be excellent. I am allowed a full [[orgasm]] every 3-5 weeks with lots of teasing and occasional ruined [[orgasm]]s in between. My refractory period after a complete [[orgasm]] lasts 2-4 days depending on several factors. One change I’ve noticed is my wife’s increased comfort accepting physical pleasure to completion without needing immediate reciprocation. She has moved past the guilt and now enjoys Lady's Nights (or Days) frequently, two or three times a week with much longer duration and intensity than when we started. She is very happy plus there is no refractory period for me which makes us both content.

I really enjoy this type of topic (neurobiology/evolutionary biology) and appreciate kelmag's efforts. Much of what is said applies to us. I am a better husband when denied. After a full [[orgasm]], I feel lazy and unmotivated; when denied, I seem to have more energy. The last few times I've climaxed, my wife openly regrets it. On the other hand, my wife typically falls asleep quickly after her climax and wakes up happy and refreshed. Completely different reactions. She seems more at ease with the lack of reciprocation as we’ve progressed. Not sure what my refractory period is exactly. During last summer vacation, we had sex then tried again a few hours later (which is very rare!) and I could not get hard. Getting old sucks =S

Since my KH read the article/blog, she is now very aware of my refractory period which used to be two or three days. She also conveniently mentions that she no longer accepts this time of 'unpleasantries' before I return to being myself (in [[chastity]] and attentive). She is considering raising her dominance level and 'forcing' me to remain submissive to shorten this period; alternatively, she could extend my periods between [[orgasm]]s beyond six weeks, more like every three months so she doesn't have to deal with MY refractory phase. I must say I’ve become very conscious of this time and work hard at showering her with affection because the thought of waiting every three months (and even a year has been mentioned—i.e., one [[orgasm]] on Valentine's Day) is intimidating....
