Questions About Measuring for the JB Cage

For anyone who has completed the JB measurement process: how far does your cage actually sit away from you? And what did you factor into that distance when deciding on the cage length?

I hope I'm getting at the right thing here. The gap between the base ring and the cage is what dictates how far out the cage sits. From reading around, most folks have a 1/4" or 3/8" gap; Ab's is set to 1/4". As for length, my suggestion is to take your flaccid penis length and subtract about 1/4". I've seen comments suggesting that many people find their cage could be slightly shorter than they initially thought.

Thanks. It seems like that's one measurement you really want to nail on the first try. Although I suppose for a price, anything can be adjusted later. Still, better to get it right initially. We're thinking about getting the JB as our next device, so I'm starting to look into it more closely. That said, I plan to watch how others' experiences go before making my final call.

Bill at MM says adjusting the gap is an "easy" fix. I asked him about which size spacer Ab used for the CB-6000s. Based on that info, Bill recommended a 1/4" gap but noted it's very easy to bump up to 3/8" if needed. It turned out that 1/4" was perfect for us. The costlier changes involve rebuilding the cage for both diameter and length (which is obvious). Bill has plenty of experience and offers solid advice, in my opinion. He also replies to emails quickly. Both devices I've ordered have fit well without needing any tweaks. I know not everyone has been so lucky, but Bill is willing to work with you until it's right. Our JB is currently with Bill at MM for adjustments. Our issue was the ring size; it fit well without a cage but was too loose when attached, which pulled the cage down. Bill has been great to work with and very accommodating in getting our measurement sorted.

If you check my past posts on this topic, here’s how it went for me: length measurements varied quite a bit depending on whether I was warm or cold, excited about being out of the CB-6000, and so on. Since I already knew the CB-6000's length and realized I had about 3/8" to spare in my normal state, I went with that measurement, which came out to 2 3/4". I think it fits really well—better than the CB does for wearing under pants—and doesn't exert too much pressure when an erection tries to happen. Keyhldr, on the other hand, thinks ours could be smaller and points this out whenever there's a bit of extra room visible. That would work fine for casual wear, but the trade-off is that during engorgement, the whole device rides up, pulling the scrotum with it. The shorter the tube, the higher things go. I feel we're in a good spot, though she might prefer her play toy packed tighter. She's probably going to order another one just like Dev did. If you don't have a CB to compare against, this advice might be less useful for you. The ring does move around naturally—tight underwear pulls it snugly up, while a warm shower loosens everything out. I think there is some flexibility here, but getting the ring size correct is crucial.

When the Widow Maker first arrived, Ab thought it felt too small and tight. She noted that the bars (rather than rods) seemed more confining initially. For reference, I ordered the WM 1/4" shorter than our JB, giving us a total length of 1 3/4". It looked incredibly small when first unpacked! I didn't factor in any extra allowances when measuring length. I simply used a small ruler to measure the underside from where the shaft meets the balls up to the tip. After doing this repeatedly over several days, my cage ended up being about 1/4" longer than optimal. When I ordered a smaller diameter cage next time, I shortened the length by that same 1/4", and it was perfect. On the first one, I lacked enough experience to trust such a shorter measurement; it just felt too short at the time. The same applies to diameter, which is arguably even harder to measure or estimate visually on an existing tube. Good luck with your measurements, -A

I was lucky with that one; the 1 3/8" ID of my CB-6000 happened to be spot on. When I tried a 1 1/4" ring, it was clearly too small. Depending on the device, your main concern should be something you'd have to cool down during nocturnal erections. There is potential for damage if that dimension is too tight. I also recall from dealing with the Curve (which is much larger) that being overly roomy can cause its own issues; things move around too much and become quite uncomfortable. A length that's too long makes walking, sitting, and concealment difficult. The JB fares better than the CB-6000 in this regard because of its smaller "head" area. The CB-6000 has a 3 1/8" length. Comparing that to my 2 3/4" choice, the difference in bulk and movement is significant; shorter generally means easier management. From a measuring perspective, what I settled on at 2 3/4" was actually anywhere from 3/4" to 1 1/2" less than some of my other readings. Seasonal variations seem relevant too: everything feels warmer and looser in good weather, but outside in 20F weather, I think I could drop several sizes across every dimension. Speaking of cold (and Dev's blog post about it), they make a sort of "sock" similar to those used by male strippers that provides an extra layer. I usually acclimate quickly, though extreme cold can be annoying. Fortunately, we are in warmer territory than Dev is right now.

One more question about the JB: how hard is it to put on that solid cuff ring? I sit high and tight, particularly in cold weather, so even finding the 6000's partially open cuff challenging at times. Since the standard one opens up somewhat, I'm wondering if a fully closed JB cuff would work for me.

I don't think you'll have any issues with solid cuff rings. Like you, I was unsure if a completely closed ring would be problematic, but I've been pleasantly surprised at how easily the SH slips on, even with that 42mm ring. It's much easier to manage than putting on the skin-pinching N-piece CB-6000 "like a puzzle" design.
