“The Quote button. What it works well for: Pointing out a particular part of an earlier message you want to discuss. What it doesn’t work as well for: Copy-pasting the whole post that comes directly before yours. Hands down, this is my top complaint about forums. Rather than simply replying, lots of folks press the “Quote” button and dump the entire previous text into their new message. In 95% of cases, they are quoting the one directly above theirs. Can we all agree to stop doing that? It’s a noble aim, I realize; I’ve pleaded with many people over time to quit this habit, but persistence is my middle name. Seriously, PLEASE stop using Quote when you just want to Reply. For heaven’s sake, please. Consider the poor pixels! P.S. The first person who quotes this whole message in their reply will get what they deserve.

I know SMF forum software better than others, but I'm certain pHpBB can handle this... Currently, the default behavior is that if I quote something and that message already has a quote inside it, **all** of it gets included in my new post. Usually, I go back to edit out the older quote and keep only the one I'm actually responding to. It would be great if the system defaulted to selecting just the most recent quoted item automatically. I hope this is clear...if not, I can create a graphic example to show what I mean. D

neranden, a squad of ninjas has been sent your way. Dev, Invision includes that feature too, but I haven't spotted it in phpBB yet. I can check for you. *Nested* quotes are annoying as well, though (in my opinion) not quite as irritating as quoting when you should just be replying.

Nested quotes...that's the exact term I was hunting for. Well, it's early; I haven't had my coffee yet and WordPress just devoured my blog draft, so my brain isn't quite fully online right now. D

Apologies for being picky, but should we change "Member's Lounge" to "Members' Lounge" now that there is more than one of us! Thanks, David

I figured it was intentional.

Okay, I'm laughing my head off right now. Maybe you could add a bit of context so I can follow along. -A
