A major issue I face with wearing a cage is skin irritation, particularly on my testicles where the skin gets pulled tight. I used to have these ultra-thin athletic socks that stop at the ankle. I sliced one pair in half and utilized the piece with openings on both ends by pulling it over my genitals before placing the cage ring on top; this creates a fabric layer between the metal/plastic and my skin. The penis itself remains exposed directly against the plastic, but there is material snugly covering the testicles that are stretched out. This approach largely resolved the painful burning sensation caused by chafing of the taut skin. Does anyone else use a sock or something similar? I did this years ago with standard socks, but the thinner fabric and specific design seem to work much better.

I don't think that sock trick would suit me since I wear my device around the clock and even shower with it on.

I'd like to see if others have found a fix. The friction from the ring against the scrotum is pretty much the main headache when trying to wear it for more than just a few days. What about using vinyl, leather, or another waterproof material to soften the impact? Has anyone else solved this issue? I'm very interested in hearing your experiences because after seven days, my testicles still have welts that take several days to fade. If I hadn't decided to limit myself to just one week, I would likely have had to ask for release since they were being rubbed raw. I did try applying baby oil every night, but it didn't really solve the problem either. It seems like this is the biggest overall challenge with these peculiar devices we've chosen to put up with.

Do you shave? If not, that could be worth trying. If you do, maybe letting it grow out a bit helps.:) I find the sweet spot is about two days after shaving for the next week or so. The following week is acceptable too. By the third week, I'm itching to shave again. I probably should aim for weekly shaves, but it's a hassle while wearing the steelheart.

You simply remove the sock when you shower. It isn't meant to stay on permanently! Recently, I've noticed less inflammation on the scrotal skin. For a while it seemed like having the skin pulled so tight made it very sensitive whenever it rubbed against clothes. The small sock tucked over the testicles definitely helped (sometimes I'd put Gold Bond powder inside the sock). Perhaps time has allowed the skin to stretch enough that this is less of an issue now, but for a long time, that was my primary problem. I still get burning sensations when using the toilet because it feels like my testicles really try to push through the ring. Maybe Canadian toilets are just colder?:)
