Haha I started with a smaller but now went to a bigger one about the size of hubby. We use a Doc Johnson leather harness (way better than textile. Much better buckle/adjustment/fit) with a vaccu-loc dildo. The vaccu-loc doesnt work with regular dildos unfortunately. Thats the downside to it. Its basically the dildo I see in the pic, but it has a hollow base that fits a pronged plastic plug on the harness. You can get them in kit form, which makes the dildo almost free though, in many cases. The best thing about it is that the crotch is designed to fit a guys parts, just below the dildo. Many that Ive seen, have the dildo sitting up too high with the guys parts below. You could just get a harness designed for a flared base didlo, but get a decent one, even for a first try, or it wont seem worthwhile.
