Being Wanded at Games and Events

There have been quite a few discussions here about airport security and scanners, but what about the experience of being “wanded” at sports games or concerts?

I recently attended the Patriots vs. Steelers match in Foxboro. I considered asking my wife if I could take it off for the game, but since I was already into week three, I didn’t really want to remove it, so I went with it on. I also wanted to show my commitment to her regarding this whole situation.

When we got to security, they were indeed checking bags and wanding people by hand. It was my turn; I took out my cell phone from my pocket and held it in front of me with my arms crossed over my chest as instructed. They gave the standard quick pass across the front and back, with a slight beep when the wand passed over my crotch area. Then they checked my sides, and I thought to myself, “No big deal, that went well.” But then he came back and held the wand right in front of my crotch. The device started singing loudly and clearly. Now I’m panicking. Should I admit it here among this crowd of thousands while my football buddies are watching?:shock: The guy looked at me bundled up in layers of clothes and asked, “Belt buckle”? I replied with a not-so-convincing “yup,” and he waved me through.

That was the closest call to having to fess up that I’ve ever had.:oops:

Wow! Hubby and I have discussed this because we go to baseball games often. We decided he would enter without it but stop at the bathroom to put it on... similarly with a flight if we ever take one; once through security, he'll find a restroom and get himself dressed!

I was "wanded" when going into the San Diego fair one time. I was sweating profusely. Fortunately, it didn't really beep over my crotch area. Since I had already removed my belt, I wouldn't have been able to use that as an excuse if needed. The worst part was watching my wife get giddy and visibly excited at the prospect of me being exposed. Sometimes I swear she tries to put me in situations where I'll be caught. Should I be worried? Lol

Wow, you're braver than me. I attend professional sporting events fairly often, though not NFL games specifically. I've never tried wearing metal while they do the wand check. Plus, who wants to sit on a stadium toilet... yuck! These days, I actually refuse to go to NFL games at all. They've always been troublesome regarding entry hassle, but now they literally treat fans like inmates (I.e., ladies can't even bring a normal purse).
