Please excuse the length of this message; I want to share as many details and background notes as possible before seeking your advice.
My wife and I began our Male Chastity journey in late September. We started with a CB6KS model. After some adjustments, I discovered that the 1 3/4” ring paired with the shortest spacer worked best for me. It is quite comfortable, though it doesn’t feel as secure as I’d prefer (or at least not as securely as I would like). Typically, about 90% of the time my shaft reaches all the way to the tip of the tube; during the other 10%, Mr. Happy falls short by roughly 1/4” to 1/2”.
About three weeks into our journey, we decided to upgrade to steel hardware, so we ordered sizing rings from MM while preparing for a JailBird purchase. I began with the 1 3/4” base ring. Following MM’s guidelines, a well-fitted ring should allow your index finger to slide in up to the first knuckle. With my current setup, I can push my index finger past that point easily, and I can almost fit both my index and middle fingers up to the first knuckle, but not quite. Next, I tested the 1 5/8” base ring. It matched MM’s description perfectly, so we chose that one in its oval shape. We were confident enough in our measurements to order just the double ring, ignoring MM’s warning that it couldn’t be resized later. That turned out to be mistake number one.
Moving on to Mr. Happy’s new home, I first tried the 1 1/4” sizing ring. It slipped over the glans easily but moved around a lot once positioned on the shaft. Recalling MM’s advice that the fit should be snug without being tight, I found the 1 1/4” option too loose. So we tested the 1 1/8” ring (the smallest in their set). It took a little extra effort to slide past the head, but once on the shaft, it felt just right—snug yet not constricting. We ordered a cage with a 1 1/8” diameter.
Regarding length, we measured over several nights when Mr. Happy was typically flaccid between 2” and 2 1/4”. We chose to use 2” as our final number. MM’s instructions suggest subtracting 1/4”, but based on advice from others here who said “when in doubt, go smaller,” we subtracted a full 1/2” instead, resulting in an order for a 1 1/2” cage. That was mistake number two.
The JailBird arrived about a week ago. Putting the ring on required some effort but wasn’t entirely surprising. Getting the cage onto Mr. Happy was quite amusing; he acted like a lobster being lowered into boiling water. With plenty of lube and determination, we managed to lock it in place. He looked miserable! Parts of him were poking through every gap, and much of his mass got trapped between the ring and the bars, taking up space needed for other parts of my anatomy. Using some Q-Tips and a bit of patience, I eventually got everything inside. It wasn’t comfortable initially, but neither was the CB6KS at first. I decided to endure it for a few days to let him adjust. That was mistake number three.
After three days, although still pink and warm, my scrotum had swelled up like a softball. I also felt sharp pain around the circumference of the base ring (likely due partly to the swelling). When we finally removed the cage, Mr. Happy looked badly contorted, with several abrasions caused by skin poking through the bars and rubbing against fabric. Because of my swollen scrotum, it took hours before I could remove the ring itself. Once off, it was clear I had a significant abrasion all around where the ring sat, looking very much like a rope burn.
So here is the crux of this long post: Before spending another $400 or so on a new JB, we want to know where we might have gone wrong. We haven’t measured our current JB yet to check for manufacturing errors with MM, but we are assuming they got it right.
It seems obvious that we need a longer cage, but by how much? I recall the CB6KS tube is 2 1/2” long, and Mr. Happy fills most of it. This contradicts my measured length data. Perhaps sitting naked in an air-conditioned house allows for quick access to check on him compared to being slightly aroused inside a confined tube? Also, any device ring acts somewhat like a cock ring, which might increase the apparent size of the penis. Should future measurements be taken while wearing the sizing ring for the base fit? I seem to remember reading that MM can shorten a cage but cannot lengthen one. Is this accurate? If so, I lean toward ordering long and having it adjusted later if needed.
Then there is the diameter issue. As I recall, my CB6KS has a 1 3/8” oval diameter, which is a full quarter-inch larger than our JB’s diameter. That represents significant extra volume. The pressure against erection feels pleasantly frustrating (to say the least), and my wife enjoys it too. I believe the smaller JJ diameter will help achieve that goal, but we are worried about the abrasions caused by the current 1 1/2” cage. Would a longer cage reduce or solve this problem? Any thoughts on our decision to choose a 1 1/8” diameter?
As someone mentioned earlier here, flaccid length and diameter aren’t independent; shorter length usually means wider diameter, and vice versa. How do we factor this relationship into sizing decisions?
Finally, the base ring situation is unclear. We aren’t sure what went wrong there. It seemed to fit MM’s specifications perfectly, and I like the added security it provides compared to my 1 3/4” CB6KS ring. Could the swelling have been caused by a cage that was too short? A round ring covers more area than an oval of the same circumference. Since our sizing ring is round rather than oval, we wonder if switching to a round base might have worked better, or was it simply too small?
Thank you for reading through this lengthy message. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
While reading your post, I noticed my measurements are quite similar to yours. I am currently using the 1-3/4 base ring on my Jailbird. At times it felt a bit large. Since we plan to order from Watchful Mistress soon, I considered going one size smaller for our next purchase. Last week during a break in chastity duties, I tried wearing the 1-5/8 sizing ring. It went on easily and seemed fine initially. However, after half a day, I noticed swelling starting up, so I removed it. This confirmed that 1-3/4 is likely my correct base size. For cage length, I subtracted 3/4 inch from my normal measurement. The result is perfect because once you account for the thickness of the base ring itself, plus the gap and some slippage, Mr. Happy stays right at the end consistently. It sounds like your ideal cage diameter should be 1-1/4 inches. That is what I chose, and it fits well most days. Yes, I can fit the 1-1/8 sizing ring on if I really try, but the 1-1/4 option offers comfort with very little extra room. I hope this helps.
Regarding cage diameter, when I went through the fitting process using their sizing kit and measured my length, I had two main questions for MM: 1. Should the cage rings match the diameter of the shaft or the cockhead? Mistress MM replied that we should use the cockhead diameter. I followed this advice and have a normal amount of space between the bars and my shaft. 2. Where exactly do you measure length—the top or bottom of the penis? Her answer was from the bottom, measuring from the tip down to where it meets the scrotum. This measurement worried me most because determining where the shaft connects to the ballsac can be subjective; it depends on whether the ballsac is hanging loose or pulled tight. I just sort of 'guestimated' where to place the ruler end, being careful not to push into the scrotum and distort the flaccid length. I took multiple measurements over three days, eventually settling on a 'smallest' length of 2.5 inches... which is quite different from my earlier readings that were longer because Beth kept 'helping' me by pushing things around. I didn't subtract anything extra from that 2.5" measurement... maybe I should have? But the cage fits perfectly now when flaccid; it fills to the end, and the bars cup the cockhead snugly. I think you might have 'doubled down' on your length subtraction too much, which is understandable since going slightly long is a common error. As for base ring diameter, I wore the fitting rings for extended periods... finally picking one that was snug but still allowed me to slide a finger under it while flaccid. The first time I locked up... I wore it continuously for 24 hours. It felt okay, though an inspection seemed wise later on. Perhaps I adjusted better because I had worn cockrings extensively before; the sensation of something around my scrotum trapping my balls was familiar to me. My second wear period lasted a week with another check-up. Honestly, sometimes I forgot it was even there, which worried me slightly—was I going numb? But everything remained normal and usual for lockups lasting about a month recently. Lately, Beth hasn't let me out in over two months. While still comfortable, the sexual frustration is nearly unbearable. You should talk to MM... they are excellent to work with. Just live your life and focus on being happy.
I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your new MM JailBird. It’s frustrating to spend that kind of money and wait only to find the fit isn't quite right. I wore a CB6000s for just over a year as well. Once I got used to it and relaxed into the sensation, like you, my position settled at about 1/2" to 1/4" from the tip roughly 90% of the time. I also found that the sides were filled almost constantly in the CB6000s. Here is what I ended up ordering from MM: Base Ring - 1 3/4" Gap - 3/8" Cage Diameter - 1 3/8" Cage Length - 2" I found my base ring initially a bit too tight, so I kept the 1 3/4" and ordered a larger one at 1 7/8". After the break-in period, I returned to sitting about 1/4" to 1/2" from the front bars most of the time. The cage diameter was perfect, but over time I noticed the base ring felt slightly too large for my preference. Eventually, I stuck with the 1 7/8" and had MM add a second one to create a double-ring setup, though I wanted something in between it and the smaller option. They obliged by adding just 1/16” to the original 1 3/4" ring, bringing that specific ring up to 46mm. When I ordered my Watchful Mistress device earlier this year, I kept the cage diameter and gap identical but chose a 1 3/4" (44.5mm) base ring and shortened the length to 1 3/4". Now I rarely use the double-ring configuration anymore; instead, I switch between my 46mm and 44.5mm single rings. All of mine are oval. I prefer a really snug fit like catching him before he grows much larger. It’s also very easy to hide under most clothing, especially jeans these days. I never experienced the "softball" swelling you described because I apply lotion twice daily around the base ring—once after my morning shower and again at night before bed. Without it, I would be miserable down there. I do know that MM can shorten a cage (since mine was modified), but I'm less certain about their ability to add length. I don't have all the answers for your specific situation, but I thought sharing what worked for me might help since we are similarly sized. Best of luck.
Just so you know, you aren't alone in going too small initially. My first MM cage was 1 3/4" long with a 1 1/8th diameter cage. I wanted it snug but overshot the mark on length/diameter balance. I eventually sold that device and bought another from MM with a 2" long cage and 1 3/8th diameter, which suits me better as I fill most of it now too. If you sell yours, expect to lose about $100 overall; they hold their value well. Very few people get the sizing perfect on the first try, so don't be discouraged.
I agree that you shouldn't feel too down; there is likely a buyer for your device to recover some costs. MM devices do seem to resell quite well. It has been said many times here: when ordering from MM, don’t hesitate to ask questions. When you were unsure about the shaft diameter, you should have Emailed them directly. I had the same issue Regular Joe faced and got a similar result; > member_e3cc99d06c wrote: > As far as cage diameter, when I went through the fitting with the sizing kit and length measurement I had two questions for MM: > 1). Should the cage rings be the same as the diameter of my shaft, or cockhead?....and **Mistress MM said the cockhead diameter is the one to use**. I did so, and have a small amount of space between the bars and the shaft....which is normal. A few notes on double rings. When using doubles, you generally need a slightly larger base ring, especially if your fit runs high and tight. Double rings also pull the device closer to the body, which can affect measurements. These are good points to ask MM about. When I got my first MM device, I dealt with these issues: cage was 5/8" too long, base ring was too large, and the gap was too short. If you decide on another MM piece, here is a recommendation for the base ring, particularly since you started in late September. Order two base rings when you get your device: one that is nearly perfect but slightly large, and the next size down. The reason is that over time (think many months), most men prefer a smaller base ring as their body adjusts to it. I would also suggest considering a single ring if ordering doubles in the future. Have you measured your current base ring to verify its actual size? I once received the wrong size and fixed it immediately upon telling MM. One final thing to ask: Have you contacted MM directly about this problem? They may have suggestions that help with your next device, wherever it comes from.
> I was also feeling intense pain around the circumference of the base ring...Once off, it was apparent I had a serious abrasion around the entire circumference where the ring had been. It can best be described as looking like a rope burn. I totally relate to this experience. When my CB3k first arrived, I found that the smallest ring was the only one from which escape seemed impossible. I put it on and Mrs. Twisted took the key...and what began as erotic torment turned into sheer torture. Things were manageable during the day when awake and able to mentally control [attempted] erections, but nighttime told a different story. Without mental control, nocturnal erections would build until they caused intense pain upon waking, worsening with each passing night. Eventually, I was in constant discomfort. I tried 'toughing it out,' but after the third night, relief became necessary; I couldn't endure anymore. Like you, I had severe abrasions and deep bruising of the musculature underneath. Healing took considerable time. My next attempt used the second-largest ring. Though slightly escapable, it worked well overall. Over the following 12-18 months, we gradually reduced the size by wearing progressively smaller rings for short periods before returning to larger ones, then back down again for longer stretches. Eventually, I settled into a nearly smallest-sized ring which has been made even tighter through epoxy additions (used originally to mend its broken hinge). I could likely tolerate that smallest ring now but hesitate because of the hinge rivet; it can be quite painful whether turned forward or backward. Plus, closing it without the hinge mechanism might prove difficult if I increase thickness by covering the rivet with more epoxy. In short—while a smaller size may indeed be correct for you, adjusting to it could take time. You might need an extended acclimatization period transitioning from larger sizes down to that (a) smaller one.
As others have mentioned, contacting MM for their advice is a good move. They are helpful people. I am very happy with my JB; obviously, I got the sizing just right. It fits snugly and has caused no issues at all. Currently sitting on day 37 without release, aiming toward 180. One suggestion: Several years ago before my wife and I became serious about this lifestyle, we experimented a bit with cock rings etc. If you have a Tractor Supply nearby, visit them. In the logging chain section, they carry an assortment of brass rings in standard sizes like 1 1/2", 1 3/4", and 2". Since you suspect the 1 5/8 is too small for your base ring needs, buy a couple of the 1 3/4" ones and glue them together. Voila—a double ring! Wear it for a while, checking frequently to see if that size works better for you. By the way, they are inexpensive—about $2.00 each. They stock even smaller sizes too which could serve as cock rings. Just a thought.

Good advice, though I'd be very careful placing too small a metal ring around your shaft...it is quite possible to have so much constriction that the blood won't leave your erect cock, and it will be a trip to the emergency room to have the ring cut off. It happens; they've seen this stuff before and know what to do. The MM sizing rings used in such a manner (if they're small enough to function that way on your particular member) are less risky since they're plastic and more easily snipped off. Finally, the most common medically recommended maximum time period to wear a truly constricting cockring is 30 minutes. That critter needs fresh blood for oxygen to keep the old boner meat alive!:D
Definitely be careful if using it as a cock ring. I have but make sure I can get it off even if I'm still erect. Use one just a little smaller than your cage diameter and you shouldn't have any problems. At least I never have. Of course I'm not getting any erections for quite a while so the subject is moot for me at this time.
I'd like to thank everybody for their input. I will definitely contact MM and seek their input before I place my next order. For the record, I measured the device I received, and it is exactly what I ordered.
