MM Round Base Ring Compared to Oval

Has anyone used both options? Is there a noticeable difference in how comfortable they are?

Hubby hasn't specifically compared the MM Round and Oval models, but he wears a round one on his Bird Cage and an oval for his Jail Bird. He definitely finds the oval much more comfortable around the sack.

I originally ordered a JB with an oval ring. However, the cage diameter was too close to the base ring diameter (3/8 inch), leaving not much room for my sack. I emailed MM and they suggested that if I have a vise, I could just squeeze it back into a round shape. It worked perfectly (just make sure you leave it in the vise long enough—ask MM for their specific recommendation to avoid damaging the ring). Afterward, I switched to a PT model with a smaller cage diameter but kept the same base ring diameter. However, after nearly a year as my body adjusted again, one winter night my testicle slipped out… which meant a big comforter and an extra bed warmer. I considered dropping the base ring down by 1/8", then thought about that original JB ring and wondered if making the PT ring oval might help me avoid buying a new base ring … it did work.

William at MM mentioned that generally most people find the oval more comfortable. Aside from the comfort of the gap, did you notice any downsides to wearing a round ring?

For me personally, the round was more comfortable initially. But now that I've worn a JB/PT for over two years, the oval feels fine too, though it remains a bit snug when my boys get cold and pull (or try to pull) upward. My point about using the vise is just to let people know that getting the top gap and/or base ring diameter correct is key, because the shape can be easily adjusted to improve comfort and change the bottom "gap" size—provided you have a good vise.

I take it that the oval ring is shorter from top to bottom and longer side-to-side...is that right?

Would you be so kind as to define "ever so slightly"... is it along the lines of something like 1/4 inch? I think I read somewhere that the bend in the ring is a little less than the width of the first cage rings, i.e., the oval base ring is just slightly wider than the cage ring...does this sound about right?

About 1/4" wider than the height of the ring. For example, a 1-3/4" oval ring would measure about 1-7/8" x 1-5/8".

Frankly, after wearing a double oval base ring as well as both oval and round versions...I don't find much difference in the degree of comfort. For me, dialing in the gap perfectly was the biggest challenge. They were all very comfortable...except when a testicle would pull through. Careful bending of the base ring stud allowed me to reduce the gap so it's still comfortable but impossible for a ball to slip out.
