Buying a chastity cage for the first time

Hello everyone, I am a gay submissive living with my Master in San Francisco. He is eager for me to try chastity. I have used CB3000 cages before, but they gave me some trouble, so I would appreciate any advice you can offer. The main issue is that my testicles pull up close to my body and the shaft retracts a bit. This means I need a smaller ring when not erect to keep everything secure, but wearing it overnight or during the day causes significant strain and pain at other times. It feels difficult finding the sweet spot between a cage that is too tight and one that is too loose. Is this common? On top of that, I produce quite a bit of pre-cum, which makes things slide around more and keeps them harder to keep clean. Any thoughts are welcome. Also, a fellow submissive recommended trying a keyholder (KH) setup, saying it would be much cozier and cleaner than wearing a cage. I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with that approach.

Lastly, any general tips on how chastity might impact the dynamic between gay subs and doms? And what mental aspects should I watch out for alongside the physical ones? I own that exact model from Mr S, and it was actually my very first cage. It’s fairly comfortable, but the security isn't great. I ended up popping out of it a couple of times during nighttime attempts at erections, which my KH understandably found unacceptable. Its hygiene is no better than the CB series (perhaps even worse). It has mostly been stored away in a drawer somewhere since. Right now, I am locked in a CB6000s (three weeks into waiting for my JB), but I have the opposite issue (very low hangers due to stretching). Regarding your final question, chastity has become a key part of strengthening our Dom/sub dynamic. From my point of view, I feel much happier and closer to my Master now that I am physically denied not just full erections but even partial ones without His permission.
