Solid rings versus hinged ones: which do you choose and why?

I used to believe that attaching a solid ring would be quite tricky. That hesitation led me to choose the CB6000s as my initial chastity device. Later, hinged rings entered the picture; despite adding rubber tubing over the hinge points, they irritated me in two spots rather than just one. Since I wear mine around the clock, my old cage couldn’t handle it. First, the ring developed a crack, and then it snapped where the right pin passes through. Even with short hair, I kept noticing strands getting caught when sliding on the ring. Going completely bald helped avoid that issue but caused some irritation, leaving me unable to wear any device for several days.

I really wanted the Jailbird model but hesitated to pay full price unless I was sure a solid ring would work well for me. So, I picked up the Holy Trainer ver. 2 with its solid ring design. Initially, putting it on felt clumsy because I worried about forcing my testicles through that narrow gap. Then I realized I had managed to slip out of my CB and other devices before, which proved my balls could fit through a 1 3/8” opening—the size I have set up for mine. Emboldened by this, I just pushed the second ball in without issue. Now, installation takes mere seconds, much faster than dealing with all the components of the CB while trying to avoid skin pinches or trapped hair. It’s quick to slip on and off now; besides enjoying how easy it is, I find it far more comfortable.

What kind of ring do you prefer and what’s your reason?

Definitely a solid ring, no doubt about it. I don't see any need for hinged rings at all. I despise them. They are pinchy beasts. I have managed to squeeze through a 1.5" solid base ring myself; it just requires lubricant and plenty of calm patience, plus mental control so you don't get the slightest bit erect while doing it. If you can get in, getting out is easy enough. However, if your diameter doesn't fit into that solid base ring initially, wearing it might be risky. Also, once a hinged ring is installed, any looseness or play in the device tends to cause problems. Keep calm and think flaccid thoughts. Pull your testicles through first. If you get aroused during the process, just wait. Sometimes I pull the tougher skin from my shaft up over the glans and tug everything through. The penis can certainly handle more compression than the testicles do, so let those go in first. For cost-effectiveness, a standard cock ring is great for testing your fit. Male-essentials sells individual ones cheaply as well as sets. I have a brass set that I enjoy for its weight, although they do tarnish over time (just a cosmetic thing). Try playing with those before committing to custom steel. I preferred his steel and brass rings compared to plastic; the feel is distinct due to differences in friction. I adore my own custom steel one. It makes me leak just from wearing it.;)

Peter is right. Hinged and open rings might be easier to slide on, but that doesn't automatically make them superior for daily wear. I purchased the older style CB2000 solid rings and modified my 3000 and 6000 models to work with them. Bonus point: Mrs Edge simply removes the cage part, uses me (with the solid ring acting as a cock ring), and then puts the cage back on.

I couldn't wear my CB3000 with its hinged ring for more than two days without issues arising near the joint. I tried using tubing and lots of lube, but it eventually came off anyway. The CB6000s was much better since it lacks a hinge. Once you get the hang of sliding into a solid ring, it is genuinely more comfortable for long-term use. My only complaint about the solid ring version is that while my wife will take it off me, she refuses to put it back on.
