On these gadgets, the standard spot for the locking post is a bump sticking out from the base ring. Cheap Chinese models usually place that post at the very top of the ring. That setup likely creates some unique dynamics. Since I’m treating my affordable device as both a learning tool and a blueprint for something custom-made, I have slight concerns regarding this distinction. Some folks here have suggested that when going with a custom piece, you should get the post mounted on top just like those budget options do. What does everyone else think?

Comfort really comes down to personal preference. Based on how I positioned myself behind the cage ring, MaleChastityNow advised me to go with a top-mount base ring. His site displays the front mount choice, but if you prefer one over the other, just ask for it. Personally, I find the top mount more comfortable. The inner part of my first cage ring now aligns well with the base ring, which means it doesn't push down on me right away. It also adds more vertical room in the space between the bottom of the cage ring and the base ring. One of my Wiley nuts prefers to tuck itself away, so I tweaked the fit on my Contender using MCN's guidance to accommodate that extra gap. The difference in how the lock post is styled isn't something you need to stress over. Figure out your preferred fit with your current cheap device; if you decide a top-mount base ring suits you better than the front mount, just request it. When purchasing a custom unit, I recommend talking directly to the maker about any questions or features not clearly listed on their online form. MCN has been incredibly helpful and considerate in our communications. He seems truly committed to crafting something that works for you. MM also gets great reviews.

Mature Metal will gladly advise on placement. My Jail Bird arrived with the post positioned at the top, and it functions perfectly. Have faith in the maker. Custom cage builders frequently make tweaks for their clients. Almost every custom cage undergoes some modifications as you wear them over time. Mine has been adjusted three times: once to shorten the length of the cage, and twice to fine-tune the base ring size. That flexibility is a major benefit of working with a skilled custom maker; your fit can evolve alongside you.
