I’m keen to give this a shot but first I need to get my head around the equipment. From what I’ve read, silicone and plastic leave something to be desired. My goal is weeks of wear rather than years, and I can’t justify spending $400 on an ideal device.
I don’t have particularly large dimensions, work out regularly, and hold a professional position—hopefully that’s useful context.
My main worry is running. Since I get up before my wife, some runs last about 2.5 hours. Maybe it makes more sense to take the device off on those days, even if doing so diminishes the fantasy slightly.
I need something low-profile, comfortable for an active lifestyle, and secure enough without costing a fortune.
Any recommendations? How should I begin? I’d appreciate any help in getting educated.
You might want to check out eBay for some budget-friendly options. They aren't custom-made, but they are inexpensive and will help you figure out which styles suit your preference. There's a wide variety available since essentially every design has its own knock-offs. I'd recommend sticking with solid base rings rather than hinged ones, as the hinge tends to pinch many people—a risk that seems higher for you given how much you exercise. Working out while wearing one isn't always straightforward without a custom fit because slipping can be an issue. That said, I've heard good things about using Holytrainers and CB devices for workouts. My partner (Narcissus) wears a non-custom metal device and exercises in it successfully, so it is doable. Running might still present some challenges though. Hope this helps.
Welcome aboard! I'd suggest using the search bar in the top right corner to dig up discussions on all the subjects that interest you. We have members here who manage to exercise, cycle, work, and do many other activities while wearing their devices. It doesn't guarantee it will be a perfect fit for your situation, but it might offer some useful insight.
It could also be worth checking out reviews for the Holy Trainer 1 and 2. I haven't used one personally, but they seem to receive a lot of praise from users with fairly active or physically demanding jobs regarding their comfort levels.
