How well does the Jailbird's front ring fit?

I’ve seen tips about the Jailbird’s A-ring being snug enough that you can slip one finger under it up to the first knuckle. But I’m curious if a ring sized this way might actually be too tight.

I wore my Jailbird continuously for two weeks. During week one, when flaccid or showering, I could push a finger further than the first knuckle, suggesting the ring was still slightly large. However, in week two, two changes occurred:

  1. The whole device felt like it was sliding down, increasing pressure on the back of my testicles. Sometimes this felt warm and burning (especially when hot or sweaty).
  2. Red rub marks appeared where the ring sat behind my scrotum and along the sides. It became quite sensitive.

I’d appreciate advice on why the fit feels great initially but later causes more pressure and sensitivity behind the ring, and what I can do about it. Is the size wrong? Is the gap incorrect?

The sliding seems to indicate your body is adjusting to the device, which many report. When this happens, a one-size-smaller ring is often needed. The redness and soreness likely stem from the base ring shifting position. Unfortunately, you’ll probably need to return it for adjustment. That’s why people usually recommend ordering a smaller ring initially.

I’ve considered that possibility, but it isn’t so loose that it shifts excessively. It feels tight unless I am fully flaccid or in the shower. It’s a bit of a mental puzzle; I’m almost afraid to try a smaller ring. Also, my size seems to fluctuate based on mood and other factors. Some days are very tight, others less so. Is that normal? I previously wore a Steelworx Looker 2 with a smaller diameter ring but a larger inner diameter (ID) stainless steel bar, and never had this issue. I was surprised by the small ID of the Jailbird. Would a double ring help? I appreciate how easy it is to keep clean and its lower profile. Has anyone else switched from a single to a double ring?

If you’re feeling burning on the underside of your scrotum, it could be a gap issue. Are you using lubricant? As your testicles get used to the device, they may shift slightly forward... If there’s too much space and you can fit two fingers under the base ring, a smaller ring might help. However, if only one finger fits (in normal flaccid state, not in the shower), the ring size is likely correct. I suggest checking the gap and ensuring adequate lubrication. The ring could be pulling or rubbing on your skin, particularly during erections, especially if you aren’t well-lubed. Over time, as your body adapts, you may need less lube. Also, since you didn’t have issues with the thicker base ring of your other device, consider a double base ring from Mature Metal.

You could email my husband about the double ring; he’s used both models. Obviously, I have no personal wear experience:)

Lady M How do I email CM to ask about the double versus single ring? By the way, I thought you’d be busy packing and here you are online.:D

I’ve noticed the fit varies day-to-day while wearing the JailBird. The difference between perfect comfort and pain can be very slight. Overnight I rarely feel it, but during the day sometimes the whole unit rotates a few degrees; I suspect this is because the padlock resists rotation more in one direction than the other. Occasionally, I get that burning sensation too. For me, lubrication wasn’t ideal; I remember tearing up in pain when one testicle slipped through the gap. I fixed it by slightly bending the post on the A ring to narrow or even out the gap. The position change is barely noticeable though. So I think there’s no quick fix: aim for near-correct sizing and accept daily/weekly variations. Only intervene if things trend distinctly in one direction. US folks don’t have to add six weeks minimum (postal time) to a rework, which makes me more determined to find my own solutions.

I can get my finger under the ring but not quite up to the knuckle. During fitting tests, they told me to place my finger where it connects to the cage. I have two rings and both were resized for a small fee. I use a 1/78" ring (same as other devices) with a 1/2" gap. Prefer their oval shape over round. Sometimes testicles try to retreat, making it tight for an hour until they relax again. If I go half an inch larger, I risk falling out when bending over. My current ring is very comfortable now. Previously used one half an inch smaller where only a fingertip fit under; swelling made my scrotum feel strangled and uncomfortable. Had to send the Jailbird back twice for perfection—worth it.

This is likely if it always rotates the same way. We once had this because the top gap (which should be smaller than the bottom) was too large. Mature Metal fixed it easily; cost me just postage. You might want to double-check your measurements. Things can loosen over time with wear.

Sounds similar to my situation—in normal conditions I get a finger under the ring to the knuckle and don’t notice it during the day... but at night I wake up with dull pain needing to read or go to the bathroom... I have another ring that is 1/16" larger. In normal conditions, two fingers fit easily, allowing much better sleep. Using silicone lube; there’s some rotation, but tight underwear keeps things in place. I’ve gotten as close to perfect as possible and prefer caution over risking damage trying to get hard at night. Sleep is priority.

Once you get a double ring made by MM, you can no longer resize it. I have both single and double rings; prefer the double. Good advice above. It sometimes takes months for your body to adjust and make necessary alterations for comfort, but once right, pure joy.

The boys might have hit on something in emails—hopefully locked4now doesn’t mind me explaining—they worked out that he switched from a Steelworxx anatomical ring (bent backward) to the MM base ring... Thinking his body needed that extra room where the ring tipped back. But I’m sure he’ll figure it out over time.
