I’ve noticed that the link between the ring and cage seems to develop a bit of wobble over time. This causes the cage to shift, gradually widening the space at the bottom where they meet. Eventually, there’s a chance my balls might slip out.
To fix this, I cut an insert shaped exactly like the connection point. It looks sort of like a little horse. I used an old credit card for the plastic because it had just the right thickness. The wobble is much reduced now—it feels as tight and solid as when I first got it.

That looseness also puts extra strain on the locking post, so I think you were spot-on to patch it.
I’m considering eliminating that wobble in my HTv2 as well. It didn't have any when I first got it, but a week or two later some play developed. As far as I can tell, it hasn’t gotten worse since then. I was debating between using a hard nylon shim (which wouldn't wear down but also wouldn't flex, potentially stressing other parts of the device) or perhaps a softer plastic (which might wear over time but could reduce stress on the rest of the locking post).

Could you please post a photo showing both the fix itself and how the cage looks with it in place??

I’ve dealt with the same gradual looseness in my HTv2. It actually led to a particularly uncomfortable episode where my balls escaped, which caused me to relegate my HTv2 to the penalty box... Recently, I saw a post in another forum explaining that you can fix this by submerging the HTv2 parts (detached from each other) into hot water—not boiling, just the hottest tap water available—and leaving them there until the water cools back down to room temperature. The original poster claimed this process causes the resin to reset to its original shape. I tried it myself and it actually worked!!! My HTv2 is restored to its prime condition!

The hot water helped a bit, but adding the plastic shim made it rock solid.

I tried the hot water followed by cold water trick as well. It worked wonderfully at first! The fittings were tight and the gap was smaller. Wonderful stuff. Then it warmed up again, and my pesky testes slipped past the ring. I really do like this device for how easy it is to urinate in, its stealthiness, and comfort. I just remove it briefly a couple of times a week for cleaning, so it’s generally a "go". However, the slipping issue can be quite uncomfortable at times, which isn't working well for me. I might have to try some inexpensive metal devices to confirm the gap size before ordering a better-quality metal one.
I moved over to a Chinese-made metal cage—it’s the super small version I was able to buy from Amazon or find on eBay (ships directly from China) without waiting three weeks. It costs little, and wearing it for a month straight caused no issues. I don’t have the gap problem anymore, and my balls stay put with no slipping. Peeing is a bit messy, but I can handle that. Cleaning takes about 90 seconds in the shower, which is roughly the same time as before. Sleeping is fine; it hides really well under clothes. I did like the HT2 and wore it off and on for about a year. For me, switching to this new metal cage was the better move.
