I’ve been browsing these forums for a while but only recently became an active member and started posting. However, I have some topics in mind that deserve a more scientific analysis rather than just casual conversation. I did search around for answers, yet nothing quite hit the mark or satisfied my desire to be as knowledgeable as possible. Let me give you a bit of background before Question 1; note that Question 2 doesn’t need one.

Background #1: When I first began using chastity devices, I slept through the night without trouble, which is completely normal for me. Eventually, I reached a point where sleeping undisturbed was easy, allowing me to move down to smaller rings. Right now, I’m adapting to my new metal device while asleep, but it hasn’t been going so smoothly. When I wake up with morning wood, the area looks slightly discolored, though there’s no problem when I am flaccid.

Question #1: Once we reach that stage of sleeping through the night, two main theories appear frequently on this board. The first suggests we simply get used to the discomfort while asleep and endure it without waking. The second proposes that our body reduces arousal during sleep. I’ve looked into these ideas here but haven’t found anyone who can back their claim with certainty. So, I’m asking everyone who might know the answer to share your thoughts and confirm if you truly understand what’s happening.

Question #2: While researching the topic above, I noticed people claiming that tight underwear aids in sleeping through the night. Given this, is there a logical reason why they help? I’ve worn them myself but didn’t notice much change. To put it simply, is there evidence to support the idea that tight underwear helps you sleep better while caged?

Thanks ahead of time for your replies:)

Great questions! Here is my take based on experience. #1 - During the first few years of starting out in chastity, I would get woken up by those typical nighttime erections. Lately, though, interruptions during sleep are rare for me. Perhaps it's because I've finally found the perfect fit between my base ring and cage, keeping me comfortable all night. Or maybe age plays a part; perhaps being older means less frequent arousal? #2 - I stopped wearing underwear to bed back in the 70s, so I can't really weigh in on "tightie whities". However, like some others here have noted, I use an extra pillow placed between my knees, which helps quite a bit.

I find that threading the device through the fly of my boxers at night prevents my testicles from rubbing against my thighs. It also makes access easier if my wife decides to play with me during the night. I haven't had any real trouble sleeping due to the device.

I actually attempted a sort of scientific study on how my body reacts to nocturnal erections. My reasoning was that the only way to confirm why nighttime erections stopped bothering me was through direct observation. So, I stayed awake all night waiting for a "nighttime wood," but none came. The next day was long, yet I remained determined to finish this experiment. Halfway into the second night, I dozed off—I knew because I woke up with an erection! When I catch up on sleep later, I plan to try again and will report back.

> The second theory is that our body stops becoming aroused during our sleep. I've done a bit of research in this board but I have never found a place where someone can definitively support their decision. My experience suggests the body does *not* stop becoming aroused. Instead, to some extent, we just get used to it, and it doesn't trigger waking up. I say "to some extent" because since my latest size reduction, I usually max out at about five hours before being woken up; sometimes only three hours. If I go pee, everything settles down fine for the rest of the night. But if I try to ignore it—even if I successfully reduce the erection by focusing on something else and fall back asleep—I'll be awakened again within an hour or so. Interestingly, urinating helps them subside quickly; failing to do so makes them strangely persistent. Currently, my best guess is that this mechanism relates somehow to bladder fullness. Cutting down on fluid intake in the evening seems to lead to longer sleep durations. > member_75c78a1ec7 wrote:I actually did try to do a scientific study on how my body is **a**ffected with nocturnal erections.I reasoned that the only way to be able to verify why my nighttime erections didn't bother me anymore was for them to be observed. > So, **I stayed up all night waiting for the nighttime wood, it never came.** The next day was a long one but I stayed awake determined to complete this experiment. **Halfway through the second night, I fell asleep. I know because I was awakened with a nocturnal erection!** Damn, when I catch up on my sleep I'm going to try again: I'll report back. If you aren't asleep yet, you don't get that nocturnal erection. I spent years pushing through nights and sometimes went without sleep for several days and nights in a row (and during some college years while working three jobs, most of my sleep happened on the library couch between classes...it was then that I had my only 'wet dream', having fallen asleep at work in a shared office:oops: ). Edit: I've tried tight briefs, boxers, and going without; none seem to make a difference regarding nocturnal erections. Also, I haven't found using a pillow between the legs particularly useful.

1) I believe it is partly both. Definitely have become more accustomed to the sensation over time, and while I still get morning wood in the cage (though not quite at 100%), my body doesn't fight the restriction as much when I wear it regularly. This holds true especially for periods longer than 4-5 days, which is my most common duration. Since I stay locked almost 24/7, there isn't much time to "stretch" in between. Side note: Everything returns to normal after a few days out. 2) For sleeping, I prefer loose boxers. And yes, I have tried many different combinations.

(Yes, I realize that I'm doing little more than saving someone the search on wikipedia):) ... tumescence The cause of NPT is not known with certainty. Bancroft (2005) hypothesizes that the noradrenergic neurons of the locus ceruleus are inhibitory to penile erection, and that the cessation of their discharge that occurs during REM sleep may allow testosterone-related excitatory actions to manifest as NPT.[3] Evidence supporting the possibility that a full bladder can stimulate an erection has existed for some time and is characterized as a 'reflex erection'.[citation needed] The nerves that control a man’s ability to have a reflex erection are located in the sacral nerves (S2-S4) of the spinal cord.[4] A full bladder is known to mildly stimulate nerves in the same region. The possibility of a full bladder causing an erection, especially during sleep, is perhaps further supported by the beneficial physiological effect of an erection inhibiting urination, thereby helping to avoid nocturnal enuresis also known as the Bonfield effect.[citation needed]

True. I suffer from humor-impairment without having had at least a quart of good, strong coffee. Currently testing out some Death Wish coffee and Valhalla Odinforce Blend. It's OK, but I don't think it's quite worth the price premium. Black Fly Roast is better ('For the Buzz that won't go away'). From a flavor standpoint, a pure Sumatra or Dark Magic is better.

1) Our body do adjusts to different discomfort and pain levels. The question is how long will it take considering that we are not in a conscious state and our rational thinking cannot influence the process, typically making it shorter. I believe the time we get too frustrated by sleep deprivation and take action comes before the time our subconscious gets adjusted to the new stimuli from the scrotus:D 2) Tight underwear helps because it pushes the cage against the body and counteracts the pushing force of the erection. Less pressure on the scrotum means less stress to its skin. The type of underwear and of the cage make a big difference thou. I cross-dress and have found out that some female panties and stockings are very good at this job. Might not be easy to fall asleep with all this gear on, particularly if it is your:fetish: lol: Btw, I have noted that peeing works to calm night erections. The explanation provided few posts above about the bladder pushing some nerves makes perfect sense to me, very interesting.

Thank you all for the amazing replies. The real reason I was concerned about whether or not our bodies just get used to the pain or if we stop becoming aroused is because when I wake up my 'bits' are slightly discolored. I love:chastity:, but it is not worth my health. Also, it is why I asked about the underwear thing. I just wanted some definite and experienced answers to go off of. EDIT: I decided to contact the company about purchasing a base ring the next size up and they are sending one out tomorrow. So, hopefully sleep will come easier for the time being.

A rare few (perhaps 25%) seem to have no issue from the get-go with it, but most of us find it a real adjustment. It took me years, and ultimately getting a custom made device before I was able to do it easily and w/o any loss of sleep. No combo for the CB 3K worked well enough that I could go without noticing it. But the 4 main things that I have learned worked for me to help me sleep in lockup: 1) I use a skin lotion at night and not a "lube" like I do during the day. At night = Goldbond medicated, and yeah it *is* menthol, so you will notice it) and during the day I sparingly use A&D ointment. 2) Loose fitting boxer briefs for bed. During the day what I wear varies depending on what I'm doing - a lot of sitting = loose, a lot of walking = tight. 3) Sleep on my side with a pillow under my knee. 4) Be extra mindful about urinating before bed. I will sit on the toilet an extra 10 mins to make sure my bladder is as empty as possible.

I am just trying to get to that point with my new metal bird cage and for some reason its just not working out as good. So, though I can use the 1.75" all day without any issue, I have trouble sleeping. The company I bought this from mailed me out a 2" base ring so hopefully I can get used to that one and then downsize again.

I'm assuming you're dealing with mature metal, and they're who I got my custom cage from as well. If you had used a 2\" with the 6K I suspect that's exactly what you'll need with the MM cage too. I found the thinner base ring of the MM cage was a nice change from the wider one on the 3K that I used to wear.

If I could manage some comfort with it on, I'd probably keep it almost around the clock. Or as long as my girlfriend decides to wear me. I just ordered a bigger ring myself. Hopefully that'll make things better.

I find it extremely unlikely that any healthy male simply stops having nocturnal tumescence, given how prevalent it is in males (i.e., nearly 100% of all men have them every single night). Most likely is that the male genitals adapt - the skin of the scrotum elongates to enable erections to occur without testicular pain, or pinching pain due to skin pulling. Keep in mind of course that at different times of year, skin will be more or less elastic, based on temperature and humidity both at night and during the day. I myself had a problem just the other night because it is below 20 degrees F outside here, and my testicles were very tight due to the cold. Psychological changes from long term chastity aside, it is important to keep in mind that erections, sex, and ejaculation are literally the only real reason for the biological entity that is a human male, just as nurturing the maternal cell line within a woman's ovaries and generating the next generation is the purpose of the human female. We're both big biological machines to make gametes meet each other. You won't defeat that with a small piece of steel, unless you're causing structural damage.
