Base Ring Size Limits – Is It Too Small?

Chastity is going great for me—so well that I’m thinking about getting a custom piece, like a Jailbird. I don’t want to buy the device twice though; it would be better to learn how things work with these affordable Chinese models first.

I currently wear an oval base ring sized at 44 mm (1.73 inches). It’s mostly comfortable, but two issues bother me:

  1. Roughly once a day, I slip out and lose one testicle, leaving everything feeling quite loose afterward. A little coaxing fixes it. However, activities like running, jumping jacks, or deep knee bends make escape almost certain.
  2. When I try to get an erection with my current cage and ring, the tension of the ring pulling against the back of my scrotum feels intense. In my opinion, going smaller might actually worsen this sensation.

I’ve seen how size, flexibility, and sac length change based on effort, temperature, and other variables. Metal doesn’t handle these shifts well, so a smaller ring seems to be the only way to avoid accidental escapes.

My next purchase (perhaps just for sizing experiments) will be a 38 mm (1.5 inch) base ring. I’m wondering if I’ll regret trying such a small size.

Experts will likely chime in soon, but don't forget to check the gap. You should be able to slide one finger under the base ring up to the first joint; if it's tighter than that, you might run into issues like blue balls. If the base ring size is correct and you still have escape problems, try narrowing the gap a bit. I spent weeks testing different setups before settling on my larger JB base ring with a smaller gap. Since things are always changing, perfection isn't guaranteed; it's about finding your right combination. Good luck!

I believe dropping from 44 to 38 mm might be a jump that's too large. If I were you, I'd reduce the size in smaller steps.

I guess that's why I'm asking what a reasonable step down looks like. Should it be 42? Or maybe 40? @Belocked I am currently working on narrowing the gap; we'll see how that turns out.

It sounds like the issue lies with the gap between the cage and the base ring, and possibly the base ring itself. I'd start by adjusting the gap; if that isn't right, no matter what size your ring is, your testicle will be more prone to popping out.

I'd start with the gap; if that's not right, no matter what size your ring is, your testicle will be more likely to pop out. I agree. I prefer a bit more room in my base ring. My current one (when everything is soft) lets me fit both my middle and index fingers up to the first knuckle, which is quite generous by most standards. However, I manage the gap carefully to prevent ball slippage. My current gap measures 11.9mm, which fits me perfectly. Even so, during long bike rides (over three hours), there's a 50% chance my ball will slip due to sweat, pressure, and cage rotation. The catch is that I'm reluctant to narrow the gap further because it tends to cause significant ball burn during nocturnal erections.

If there isn't much extra space, I probably wouldn't want to drop more than 2mm... but then again, I'm not sticking my fingers under your ring to check! When things start getting tight, even a small change can make a big difference. As others have mentioned, the gap matters too. However, try changing only one variable at a time to see if it helps or hinders. If you alter multiple factors and still aren't satisfied, you won't know which adjustment caused the problem.

My base ring is oval-shaped. I wondered if a circular one might be more comfortable and help prevent ball slippage? I'm not certain what my gap measurement is, but I managed to make it slightly smaller by bending the post just a bit. Now it fits perfectly with zero slippage. I've always been curious about how a round base ring feels. I don't find oval rings 100% comfortable all the time, especially during exercise. As you noted, they can twist sometimes and alter the whole "arrangement" anyway.

I used an oval ring with my JB but found it would rub against my thighs occasionally and often twist to the left (I suspect the pole might not be exactly 90 degrees off, or perhaps it's due to having balls of different sizes). I had to send the JB back for modifications, which included switching from oval to round. It was much more comfortable afterward. Your mileage may vary, but I wouldn't go back to an oval ring.

Last night, I stabilized the cage relative to the ring by adding a washer behind the receiver on the post. The entire post is now fully populated, though it takes some care to thread the lock through the hole. I think this will stop the cage from popping up but won't do much for closing the gap. We'll see how it works out and then figure out how to reshape the post sometime over the weekend. Hitting the post with a hammer feels like making gross adjustments without great control. My concern is that creating too large of a bend might prevent erections from expanding fully into the cage. My current cage is small; even if the head expands, it can't do so completely, which shuts down an erection quickly. If this bend creates a permanent "turtle" situation, I'll be back to square one. One problem at a time, I suppose.

The gap clearly matters, and a simple adjustment made a big difference. A few nights ago, I added a washer to the post BEFORE sliding on the cage, then locked everything shut. Previously, the cage had enough play to move up or down; now it doesn't. I removed about half an inch of that play between the cage and the base ring, which is clearly noticeable. I'll give this setup a few more days before deciding if I need to tackle the post to create some downward angle. I did have one slip occur, so perhaps the ring size still needs reducing. The most immediate improvement has been a decidedly more comfortable fit. Getting the sizing right seems key for long-term success. EDIT: It looks like the post does need adjustment too. During a workout, squats undid my progress and I had to deal with an annoyed wife who wants this discomfort to stop.

I just ordered the 40mm version. ... EBIDX%3AIT Might as well experiment with sizes while I'm buying these inexpensive cages. It is also a bit shorter than my current one, which is about the shortest length I would ever consider going.
