How my chastity device has changed things up

I ought to know this better given my long-term on-and-off involvement in chastity, but I’ve been locked nearly around the clock since mid-September. My current setup is a Holy Trainer V2 Standard tube with a 40 mm base ring, and there are a few things that have caught my attention.
First off, while I knew pullout was supposed to be fairly easy with the HT, it wasn’t until recently that I actually discovered (and dared) sliding my penis out of the tube in the shower with very little effort. I started doing this while cleaning up and now do it almost every day when I shower. I’ve been careful not to fiddle too much—just wash, rinse, and put it back—but this has made me wonder if a smaller base ring might be needed. I could switch to a 36 mm ring; I’ve tried that before though, and it always felt excessively tight. Should I give it another shot? Also, I’m aware of anti-pullout devices which I’ve used previously, but they tend to poke me and cause soreness, so those are out.
Secondly, perhaps linked to the first point, I’ve noticed in recent days that my glans seems to be retracting more frequently away from the end of the tube. I can actually feel it pulling back at various times throughout the day. It almost feels like some mild atrophy might be occurring due to wearing the device for such a long duration. This sounds odd, but between the easier pullout and the glans not reaching the tip anymore, I’m left wondering. When I unlock and try to get an erection, the part of my shaft that has been inside the device constantly actually shows a smaller diameter than the rest of me. I know this will normalize eventually so it’s not alarming, but still…
So, should I switch to a HT Short tube along with a smaller base ring to see how things go? Any input is appreciated before I spend more money.
It can be surprising for some of us just how 'small' we can become at times. For me, if a solid ring is large enough to get on in the first place, it’s usually big enough to slip off. This means that eliminating 'slipping out' entirely requires a hinged ring with a diameter small enough to hold firm. Such a small ring can sometimes be quite uncomfortable. I haven't yet gotten used to constant wear of such a tiny hinged ring; my only device is the old-style CB-3k with a riveted hinge. The rivet design creates a noticeable sore spot after a few days due to its relatively 'sharp' edge. I believe a wide stainless steel ring with a flat hinge might solve this issue, though I am currently unable to explore that option myself. Another possibility is a device featuring a urethral insert that extends past the base ring. This would likely prevent slipping while allowing for the larger size and comfort of a solid ring. However, I remain somewhat on the fence because the urethral insert seems to increase infection risk slightly, although I'm not entirely sure if this is actually problematic as long as proper sanitizing occurs during any removal or reinsertion. This would obviously require acquiring a new (steel) device. It appears your best bet, if you want to stick with HT, is to go with the smaller ring and try gradually increasing wear time until you adapt, swapping back to the larger one when discomfort sets in. I wouldn't change both the ring and tube simultaneously, but it's possible that a reduced tube size could improve comfort by limiting erectile capability. Unfortunately, I can't test this hypothesis right now. If you decide to try it, be prepared for the chance that your issue might persist despite the extra cost, and accept any loss as the price of finding an answer. Your other alternative is using those funds toward a different device with a hinged ring and/or urethral insert, or a solid ring paired with one. But similar to previous experiments, there's still a chance another factor could prevent resolution. You roll the dice and take your chances.
