Adjusting Size to Avoid Purple Balls

Hello all. I own an MM Jailbird and have been having trouble with comfort, particularly during arousal. After reading numerous other threads to identify the cause, I still haven’t pinpointed exactly which part of the device needs adjustment. Here is another question about getting a proper fit.
The issue involves blood circulation in my testicles. When I first received the unit (specs below), it felt somewhat loose and shifted significantly when aroused, allowing for a fairly complete erection. There was no pain, but they did feel… saggy. This was with a 2” ring, and since I could easily slide a few fingers underneath it, I assumed the size was too big.
Consequently, I shrank the ring by 1/8”, shaped it into an oval, and narrowed the gap to 1/4” to stop it from sliding forward as much. It seems this change went too far; the new base ring restricts blood flow, causing my balls to turn dusky or even purple when aroused. Not ideal! I’ve slightly bent the post so the bottom opening is wider now, and while the cage fits well when flaccid, I still experience those dreaded cold/purple testicles during arousal or sleep.
So, here are my questions for this knowledgeable group: — Is this primarily a gap problem or a base ring issue? — I’ve observed that the cage diameter is somewhat spacious—there’s at least 1/8”, perhaps up to 1/4” of space when walking or if it’s cold. Could it be that both the base ring and gap are adequate, but the cage permits too much width during an erection, effectively turning the ring into a cock ring (thus cutting off blood flow)? — How much discomfort is acceptable as part of the break-in period?
Dimensions: — Ring: 1.875” oval — Cage length: 2.75” — Cage diameter: 1.5” — Gap: 0.25” (though I’ve bent it back to near 3/8”) — Previous ring: 2” round
> Is this primarily a gap problem or a base ring issue? Well, the lesson here is to adjust only one variable at a time when modifying your device's fit. If you change multiple elements simultaneously, it becomes difficult to determine which adjustment helped and which didn't. However, it looks like you are very close to getting it right. If your testicles aren't turning cold or purple while you are soft, then the ring isn't too tight. When arousal occurs, blood flow naturally decreases, so it is somewhat expected that they may cool down and darken—as long as there is no blockage preventing them from returning to a flaccid state, you should be fine. > I've observed that the cage diameter is somewhat spacious—there's at least 1/8", perhaps up to 1/4" of space when walking or if it's cold. Could it be that both the base ring and gap are adequate, but the cage permits too much width during an erection, effectively turning the ring into a cock ring (thus cutting off blood flow)? There are two schools of thought here: some people prefer zero clearance inside the cage, believing this keeps erections minimal and reduces discomfort. Others, like myself (being slightly masochistic), find that having a partial erection along with its associated discomfort—and not being able to do much about it—adds an erotic element to the experience. > How much discomfort is acceptable as part of the break-in period? That comes down to your personal tolerance. While flaccid, there should be no pain at all, except perhaps when you are cold and your testicles try to retreat upward for warmth—and this is precisely when you discover if your gap is too large, allowing one or both balls to squeeze through...or partially through, which can make your eyes cross and bring out some tears. If the gap fits correctly, it won't be as severe; expect a 'tightness' and perhaps a slight 'burning' feeling. With your current measurements, you might have trouble at night, waking up three to five times (give or take) due to nocturnal erection attempts. You may find relief by getting up to urinate when this happens. Eventually, as you get used to it, you should only wake once or twice in the morning (likely before your alarm goes off, unless you are a short sleeper).
