I’m thinking about making some changes to a gadget (from China/DH Gate). I’ve handled basic modifications before by soldering. For this, I use specific stainless-friendly solder and map-gas, which burns hotter than propane—I find it the best option for soldering tasks so far.
It works well enough, though usually after a few attempts, and it tends to darken the stainless finish slightly.
I have absolutely no welding experience. I checked out some welders at Harbor Freight but am unsure of the differences between flux-cored, arc, MIG, TIG, etc. Not entirely sure if welding is even what I need here.
For those with relevant experience, any advice? Thanks ahead.
The specific type of welding you want for this is TIG. It's considered the most challenging to master among them. Modern arc systems (stick, MIG, and TIG) all protect the molten weld pool with inert gas, preventing oxygen and carbon contamination. In contrast, oxy-acetylene delivers both gases directly to the weld site, which leads to discoloration and carbon buildup in the joint. You might want to check if your local vocational tech school offers welding courses. On a side note, even high-end custom devices are much cheaper than the $4,000+ I've spent on TIG equipment alone. Naturally, my welding isn't limited just to toys; in fact, TIG was already my preferred method before we got into chastity. Once you get the hang of aluminum, working with steel and stainless becomes quite manageable.
