A Quick Look at the Halfshell Model 04

Even though this model has some fame, I don’t see enough people actually buying it. So here is a quick note for anyone looking into it later: in my opinion, it’s fantastic. It took me five solid months to receive mine, which was annoying, and Rigid Chastity’s customer support isn’t the quickest at replying with ETAs via email, but the cage itself is excellent. There is absolutely no play, yet pulling it apart is only slightly difficult. Pinching can happen when putting it on, but I found it surprisingly easy to avoid compared to other devices I’ve used. The lock moves smoothly, and while the finish wasn’t perfect, there were no burrs or divots worth worrying about. It fits comfortably right out of the box without needing adjustments; even a strong erection doesn’t hurt at all.

The real strength is that it functions properly as a chastity device. I’m sure a vibrator could help with relief, but otherwise, I just can’t get off in this thing. The internal PA post keeps the back section away from the outer shell—I can tap the outside and barely feel anything inside, regardless of how I twist or angle my body. You can’t simply shift the cage up and down for stimulation, nor can you shake it or rub against your own bulge through the bars like with other devices. In fact, external stimuli are hardly felt at all, which adds a nice sensation. As erection increases, the shell pulls further away, reducing internal feeling. While I can technically fit my pinky underneath from below, it’s tight and uncomfortable for that finger, so cheating isn’t really an option there (though I did choose a very short and wide cage to help ensure this result).

Overall, I wore this full-time straight out of the box despite not having worn any device in months prior. The downsides are minor: pinching is still somewhat easy for that tiny bit of skin at the front when drying off, due to the inner tube meeting the outer hole edge. Some underwear types cause issues because that sliver of skin scrapes as it swings, eventually hurting. For long workouts or hiking, I wear a pouch-style garment with boxers over them to prevent leg rubbing.

Urination is also messy. If I had the skills and tools, I’d drill more small holes in here—ones too tiny for fingers to reach through currently. As it stands, yes, you fill up while going and overflow onto your balls. It’s not terrible, but not ideal either. I wish I had been more patient with increasing my piercing gauge so they could have drilled a hole straight through the ring; that likely would have helped significantly.

The lack of holes also makes rinsing harder in public (easy enough in the shower, but you can’t just squirt water from a bottle). Additionally, I found I couldn’t really use the base ring as a standalone c-ring because the posts dig into me when aroused. It would have been nice to do so, but oh well.

I get slight redness on the underside, which seems common with these devices unless they are very loose. These downsides pale in comparison to bigger issues often cited for chastity gear: chafing, testicles pulling out or getting stuck/painfully pulled, pinching, and pain when erect due to narrow bars or odd angles. Give it a few shakes, use extra toilet paper after peeing, wear briefs, and if you want a device that truly holds you in without pain or interference during exercise, this is the one.

However, after reading countless online reviews and the guidance on the RC website, I remain unsure about cage length. Could you clarify whether to enter just the cupola length or the total length from ring A to the tip? Also, how short did your choice end up being relative to your flaccid length? Would you change anything if ordering again?

It's been two years since I placed my order, so to be honest, I don't recall the exact details on the form. However, regarding cage length, mine was short. When wearing it, I actually have to push myself back onto the piercing part to seat the outer shell properly, and I like that fit. Because of how the piercing hook is shaped, you don't need to worry about skin poking out through the front hole when erect; it stays exactly where it should. Honestly, if I ordered another one today, I might go even shorter—as long as you can get a finger inside to clean all the skin, there's really no reason not to, aside from personal preference.
