Is the cage too long? I need a shorter one.

I’ve spent a few months hunting for the right cage. Recently, I picked one up with these specs: Ring = 45mm, diameter = 38mm, length = 45mm. But within a day, I slipped out of it without needing the key to keep me in. Earlier, when I wore a 40mm ring, there was some slight discomfort and discoloration. I’m pretty sure the issue is the cage’s length, but I can’t seem to find anything smaller than my current one. I’m watching what I spend, so high-end models are out of reach, yet I need something that actually stays put; otherwise, it defeats the purpose entirely. The difference between a 40mm and a 45mm ring can be *significant*. I don't think you'll find much smaller than what you have; in most cases, slipping out comes down to the ring size. What do you mean by 'slight' discomfort? When I first tried wearing a ~40mm ring, it was incredibly painful. I had to train into it, starting with larger sizes.

Slipping out depends on the ring size, not the cage length. Look for a ring around 42 mm. Cherry Keeper has more size options and they are affordable.

When you say "slip out of the cage without the need for the key," do you mean completely removing the device (including the base ring), or just pulling your penis free? If it's about being able to pull your shaft out, that can happen with almost any device. Aside from a piercing, there isn't much way to stop that. Some devices come with 'punishment rings' which help somewhat but aren't totally escape-proof. However, if you are removing the entire unit completely, then as @TwistedMister and @Naljeans pointed out, it is indeed an issue of ring size or gap.

I want to emphasize how much a difference of just 5mm (or even less) can matter. There's another thread somewhere where experienced members agree that even 2mm makes a huge impact. It also seems like the scrotum eventually adapts, so I'm currently wearing what is essentially my "50mm" ring and plan to work up to 45mm over time. Yes, 5 mm is a massive difference. After wearing an inexpensive cage for several months, I started my custom one with a 1 3/4” (45 mm) base ring. About six months later, that size became far too large. Switching to the 1 5/8” (42 mm) gave me a perfect fit.

You've received solid advice on sizing. Let me add my two cents regarding the hub-and-spoke design at the tip of your linked cage. That configuration can make a mess when urinating (even while sitting). I recommend choosing parallels instead of that star-shaped end for better flow.

This seems to be a widespread issue. I too can slip out of my V3 model. It's just a quick cleanup and then back in. For me personally, the boys hang low. This creates enough room for soaping up and sliding the base ring down, allowing an easy pull-out. I've experimented with holding the scrotum tight against the base ring to stop this, but haven't had much success sharing those results yet. With a smaller ring, it feels incredibly snug—barely tolerable. But within an hour, I decide I'm not ready for that level of discomfort and go back to my larger ring. I keep testing the smaller one hoping it might solve the pull-out issue, but ultimately find it too tight. I am fairly certain a hinged base ring is in my future. As has been said here many times: if you can slip your parts into the device, logic suggests you can also slip out of it as well. It seems that with fixed-ring devices, until someone invents an accessory to lift or support the scrotum (preventing the base ring from sliding down), we will likely have to deal with pull-outs. By design, I think a bar or strap connected to the bottom of the base ring running upward could separate the boys and connect near the tube locking mechanism. This would prevent both slipping down and pulling out while keeping the base ring comfortable. I believe I've seen some options like this online.
