Apologies to the Millennials and others… John Holmes used to be that huge porn star everyone knew for his massive member. Anyway, I went on HOD to order a cage after measuring my very average size shlong and suddenly felt like I was channeling John Holmes. What am I missing? This is actually my second cage. I had a CB before and now I’m looking for something metal. My measurement from the pubic bone to the tip (completely flaccid / post-shower yadayada) is just 4.5 inches. So, not exactly John Holmes territory. The surprise was… all the cages, including one marked XL, are under that length by more than an inch in their measurements. I feel like a db suggesting I’m too big for Britain’s finest. Trust me, I’m not. I’m sure I’ve missed something here. Places like MM suggest deducting at least 1/4 of an inch from your measurement, which I have done. So my question is: Is it widely known and acceptable that I squeeze my 4.5” junk into a 2.5-3” cage?? Or should I ideally be looking for something with a length closer to mine? I don’t have my CB anymore and honestly, I can’t recall if it pulled away from the body or not.
It seems most [here] are 'growers' rather than 'showers', with less than 3.5\" when soft. Most cages accommodate that range. You can try a smaller cage; I think some go much smaller than their measured size, or you could look for one that is larger. Larger cages are less common but I have seen a few.
I am just over 3.5 in. when soft (sometimes smaller when really relaxed) and have had the same problem. I’m on my 6th device trying to find something comfortable enough to wear daily. My issue is more around girth though. Most "regular" devices are too tight for me, almost unable to get inside, and the few that do fit impede blood flow at dangerous proportions. The base ring is a problem too since I can’t possibly wear a standard 2in. (or smaller) one. Long story short, look at the Cherry Keeper cages. They have a wide range of devices.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll go check those out. Your personal experience definitely helps with the details too. Pretty sure I need to change my approach before buying after hearing all that. Thanks.

Larger cages are less common but I have seen a few. Right, I should have paid more attention in the shower room back when I was in college. Most likely I’m a ‘shower’:? and it appears not to be such a great indication of the baseline population. If aliens ever abduct me, I’ll totally skew their data. But more importantly... this is highly inconvenient for chastity play. I guess I’ll have to look for a magnum style cage and forget my dreams of clever concealment.
It's fine if it's shorter, actually. It was once thought necessary to make the tube equal to your flaccid length, or at least close. But years of chastity pioneers have shown that isn't true. Now, what matters is that it's WIDE enough not to cut off blood flow—100%. Length? Nah. You can actually cram your equipment down to nub and still be fine. It's all squamous cells, after all. Of course, if the cage is TOO small you might have trouble keeping clean due to all the folds, so I'm not advocating that extreme end, but I think it has become more standard to push your guy down by an inch or so into the cage. Mine does.
There were very few what I would consider large cages available when I was looking. The longest mass-produced ones I found were around 5.5” long. Mancage by Shots makes silicone versions that are 5.5” long with an inside diameter of 1.77”, which is one of the largest I found during my search. But girth matters too for cage sizing, and I ended up getting a custom made one because I couldn't find any wider cages on the market. Custom ones can be pricey but you are guaranteed they will fit well.
Oh, I should add that I always take a chance to plug MaleChastityNow. The guy who runs it and handles all the manufacturing is super cool and willing to make whatever you need, doing so quickly. Is it more expensive? Sure. But he makes good stuff, and he'll even alter or fix things if he can for a minor charge. So he's a great option if you need a custom size or shape or anything else—he doesn't make you feel like a "problem customer".
At 5.5 from shower I have similar issues. I've learned that Ring, Gap, and Cage dimensions matter most, in that order. The cage is by far the least important factor. The ring is critical for circulation and the gap plays a bigger role than people initially think regarding both circulation and security. I started with CB-x Curve, then moved to CB 3000 with CB 2000 original rings. That remains my best fit; it has been repaired many times (now with epoxy), but is crammed in so hygiene suffers and I push out of the air vent slots. The A272. (LONG) works well with skin gel and a spoon to jam inside, though the gap isn't quite right for me—otherwise it can work. The A361, a newer one, has 37MM width inside but its bigger tube takes up too much space in a 50mm base ring so it doesn't fit properly, making the effective ring size too small. Getting the tube dimensions correct cancelled out the benefits of the 50mm ring which is now effectively too small. I am considering badassworkroom titanium custom pieces, but all the learning from cheap China products was necessary to avoid a costly mistake. Good luck.
