Lock alternatives

I keep my cage on around the clock and for extended stretches. The main problem I face is that the metal fastener tends to poke me. While some folks opt for zip ties, it seems like they strip away a bit of control from my wife since the key becomes less relevant. Aside from a traditional lock, what else do people use to secure their cages?
