Adjustable Chastity Device Options

Has anyone tried or have tips on adjustable chastity devices? I own one that is quite difficult to put on, yet it still allows erections. It tends to rub and cause skin irritation/tearing at the bottom of my scrotum. If I switch to an adjustable model and tighten it specifically at the base, do you think that would help stop erections or reduce pulling?
