Hi everyone. I’m currently figuring out the right size for a Jailbird cage and wondering if anyone has tried using triple or quad base rings? My current setup is an HT-V4 nub, but my wife thinks it’s time to upgrade. After trying on sizing rings from Jailbird and going back and forth in emails with them several times, I’ve narrowed it down to at least a triple ring, maybe even a quad one. However, I’d love to know if anyone has experience with this setup: did you need to increase the size of your base ring when adding more rings to the rear? I believe my required base ring is 1-3/4 inches wide. Previously, I’ve worn three or four stacked rings behind each other in sizes ranging from 1-3/4 inches up to 2 inches. My concern is that if all three or four rings are the same width, it might feel a bit tighter than usual and could force me to step up to a 1-7/8 inch base ring instead. Thanks for any advice!

I find that my single ring works perfectly well for me personally. I am positioned quite high and tight with it. In the past lower-priced cages I've used, they tended to have wider base rings which primarily just added extra weight without offering much visible benefit. Sorry if this isn't very helpful! But I wanted to make sure you received a response. Cheers.

Size aside, I'm mostly trying to picture the weight impact. Assuming he uses the same 1/4” roundbar that his single and double rings use (I have a 2” version of both), let's calculate: multiplying by .875... get ready for this, holy crap, it comes out to about 167 grams, which is roughly 6 ounces. That weight is nearly identical to my Spyder with the 2 3/4” band and a 2” ring at an inner diameter of 1 1/2”—just under a gram difference. So that will be one hefty cage. Are you absolutely sure about this? I'm not entirely certain what size cage you're looking for, but it seems hard to avoid ending up with something over half a pound.

I ultimately went ahead and got the triple base ring. According to maturemetal, the first two rings will be sized at 1-3/4 inches while the third one will measure in at 1-13/16 inches. The cage itself has a diameter of 1-3/8 inches and a length of 1-1/2 inches. While I did consider the weight factor, my scrotum hangs quite low, so I'm hoping that regardless of how heavy it gets, the extra rings will help secure everything in place better. In previous cages from other brands, I've had issues with them sliding down until my testicles pushed against the bottom stopper; this often caused me to slip out through the back opening. That problem led me to start wearing very supportive underwear that keep things held tightly against my body. Right now, I wear a Holy Trainer V4 Nub which is fairly comfortable on its own, but it still needs full support from underwear or else it drops down toward the end of my scrotum. My hope with taking up more space in the lower area using the triple base ring (as suggested by maturemetal) is to reduce that extra room for movement. I also figured that even if things don't go perfectly, I could always have one ring removed or take it out myself later on—though making a custom triple ring would be difficult and not particularly cost-effective since I lack a stainless steel welding setup. So I decided to try the pre-made triple option from the start; if needed for adjustments during return shipping (hopefully that won't happen), they could just remove the third ring if it proves too heavy.

Best of luck! I hope you really enjoy your cage. My MM cages are definitely among my favorites. By the way, you'll probably want to order a second one so that you have a backup pair to wear if it ever needs to go back to the shop for adjustments lol.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how you like (or don't) the triple ring setup once you've had some time with it. Please keep us posted.
