Long-term concerns with wearing cages

Good evening everyone! I’m not entirely certain whether this discussion belongs in the chastity section or general chat, but I expect someone will guide me shortly. Here’s my situation: For over a year and a half now, my keyholder has kept me locked up almost constantly using a Jailbird cage. About six weeks ago, though, I switched jobs and returned to manual labor. My days are filled with walking, bending, and moving around, which has led to several painful incidents where the bars pinch my skin. We really appreciate the Jail Bird because it’s simple to clean without needing frequent removals every few days, but we’re considering a different option for the future. Could anyone recommend something that isn’t exactly a solid tube or a wire cage? I’d love to know what others in physically demanding jobs wear day-to-day. Thanks so much!

I’m also a caged farmer of sorts. My keyholder lets me choose gear that fits my daily tasks. I work with tractors and cows, use chainsaws and sawmills, and spend rainy days in my woodworking shop—so lots of grease, oil, cow dung, and sawdust. I prefer metal nubs or micro nubs. Cleaning can be a bit tricky, especially with plastic models. Since I get quite dirty regularly, I take it off every other day at most, unless things have been quiet for longer.

Our main challenge is finding something we don’t need to take off too often for cleaning. I’ve worn various cage types over the years for extended periods, but I’m starting to think that might not be feasible anymore now. 😕

Interestingly enough, I’ve been wearing an A272 for over eight years now, with the last seven-plus being permanent. It’s proven comfortable and convenient for long-term wear during periods of heavy physical work. Note that there is a slightly shorter variant called the A271. Because I spent many years in machine shops without air conditioning, I developed the habit of showering at night before bed. With my removable showerhead, I can spray water directly into and around the cage to rinse it out. I use my finger to push soapy water inside and rub what’s accessible, then rinse clean. In the morning, I take a q-tip and smear some heavy hand cream like Gold Bond from the front of the cage. The cream traps stray drops of urine and other bodily fluids; since it dissolves in water, it washes away easily during my evening shower.

Previously, I wore a Steelworxx Steelheart but recently switched to a BA-31P because its PA attachment is more comfortable. Both are solid tubes. With the Steelheart, I managed long-term wear without ever removing it for cleaning—going well over 30 days continuously. Like Tom mentioned in his post, I installed a shower head with a hand wand (see example below). You soak everything up first, then use the hand wand to rinse thoroughly. After drying out inside with Q-tips and applying a drop or two of silicone lube, I might try Gold Bond cream after reading Tom’s notes. I didn’t buy this specific brand, and I’m not making a formal recommendation—I don’t know if its quality is good or bad.

Silicone (like baby oil) isn’t water soluble. It holds onto body residue which breeds bacteria and causes that unpleasant odor. Hand creams are much easier to clean out. Also, I sleep without drying my cage, and it’s never been an issue for me. Any trapped moisture evaporates by morning.

The little bit of trapped water isn't there in the morning Thanks for sharing this insight. We’ve been using a stainless steel open design but have relied on silicone lube. I just apply a couple drops at the base ring, yet I still notice that “funky” smell regardless of how well I believe I’m cleaning it. Guess Aveeno is next on my list to try! Thanks again, cb.

The Jailbird has been a classic for good reason! But I suggest you look into silicone cages. While they don’t always feel as “serious” or rigid as metal ones, some are surprisingly durable and far more forgiving with movement.

Early on I was all about baby oil. Then I found Dr Teals body lotion—it’s my go-to now and has nearly eliminated smell from plastic cages.

I’ve seen those cages too! However, the head design seems prone to pinching—at least when I wore one. When erecting, the urethral opening gets squeezed between the bars; and even without erection, very sensitive skin can be exposed directly against underwear. With a longer tube there’s more room for an erection (solving that first issue), but a snug fit might lead to other problems...)

For what it’s worth, I’ve been using a Sevanda Ergo for some time now and find it super comfortable even with lots of movement. It has a hybrid design that avoids the typical pinching issues.
