I’ve spent a long time trying to find a cage that’s comfortable enough for around-the-clock wear, even after having one custom-made several years back. Lately I chatted with MM (who wears a Jailbird right now), and he suggested going for a double base ring.

I ended up ordering one sized half a step smaller than the ring I was currently using. It feels surprisingly snugger, but once I got through an initial adjustment phase (meaning my testicles were sore for a day or two), it seems to do a much better job of keeping everything in place.

At first, I also wanted the cage part shortened. But MM advised trying just the double base ring first. While it is certainly more secure and helps reduce rideout (it’s still happening, but not as severely), I think shortening the cage would help me too.

I’d probably only have about 1/4-3/8” removed. I prefer not to go without a cage so soon again, but I feel there is still slightly too much room for growth, which ultimately makes my current setup less comfortable. I’m just wondering if anyone else has switched to a shorter device and noticed a real difference.

tl;dr Have you ever shortened a device and found it made a big difference?

I haven't had my device shortened per se; I just kept buying ones that were shorter. I started with the standard CB-6000, which felt uncomfortable overnight because the cage/tube was too long. Currently, I'm locked in a Chinese-made cage where the cage itself is listed at 28mm long, and it's far more comfortable—I can sleep through the night now. Mature Metal’s website suggests taking several measurements of your flaccid penis from the root to the tip, then subtracting 1/4 inch. Most people choose to have their cages made about half an inch shorter, which seems to work well for me. Tl;dr, heheh, The shorter the cage, the better it is for me. YMMV. Good luck and let us know.
