This isn’t exactly advice or recommendations for others; it’s more about my personal journey over the past two years. I started with a steel hinged ring device after discovering chastity cages on a site specializing in custom penisplugs and sounds. While I adored the open cage design, the 2-inch (50mm) base ring just didn’t feel right for me long-term. Since larger options were hard to find ready-made, I opted for something custom-built.

After following Thumper’s blog, I purchased a Steelworxx Steelheart featuring a 54mm base ring. It was fantastic—easy enough to wear around the clock, and its integrated lock is arguably the best type available. The main drawback of this fully enclosed design is that hygiene can be tricky; also, during teasing sessions, you can’t touch the penis at all, which some might love! Steelworxx offers other open cage styles too. Made beautifully in Germany with precise millimeter accuracy based on your measurements, and Dietmar is a pleasure to deal with.

I also own what seems to be the most popular custom option: the Jailbird from Mature Metal. It’s solid, though I prefer the Steelheart for my needs because its narrower base ring (5mm wide compared to 8mm) feels less comfortable on me, and its security screw is a bit more fiddly than that integrated lock.

Next up was one from Evotions, where I wanted to test out their new resin cage. It’s incredibly light, which could be perfect for some users, but putting it on proved trickier due to the extra pieces. The 3dlock creates a larger bulge at the top, making it less stealthy than my other devices. My HT version has an extremely comfortable base ring, yet the enclosed cage tends to trap urine and develop odors fairly quickly.

Oh, I did try CB early on since they offer bases wider than two inches. While many love this model, its non-rounded sides made it quite uncomfortable for me personally.

Currently though, I’m wearing what has been my most comfortable option so far: a very affordable Chinese cage known as A273 (you can find the style by searching that number). The wide, ergonomic base ring fits wonderfully, and the open design helps with hygiene while allowing some access during teasing. I have the 50mm size; its shape works well for me at this dimension, although I’m confident my body has adapted over time to handle smaller sizes.

Regarding length, I’ve found other people’s advice holds true: shorter is indeed better. That’ll do it!
