I ordered the LockedInSteel internet-enabled digital safe some time ago - and yes, it's taking its sweet time getting here - but it has all the features I need. Tamper detection, remote control... everything those naughty girls require to stay under control. The thing that really really p****d me off was... after buying this rather pricey gadget, you have to set up an account on their master server... okay... fairy snuff And in the FAQ and manual sections, it explains how you can build one of these devices yourself for roughly a quarter of the price! ARRRGGGHHH!!!!!

I'm building my own; I am an electronics geek!::D So I'm constructing a custom version that fits into a 20 Argos digital safe (Well, "fits" might be generous here; you need a Dremel or similar tool to cut openings for the second keypad and a 4x20 Char LCD display). I had a setback recently. While drunk and cleaning my desktop, I threw away the latest version because it didn't take long to overwrite after spending ages squeezing every last byte out of the code. But once Christmas is over and I have more free time, I'll continue from my backups. I plan to include the features mentioned above and perhaps a few more once I've refined the code, squeezed it onto the chip, tweeted about it so you get all the details in as much space as possible.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this on our next trip to Home Depot. I'm learning so much!
