I’ve put together a set of two Chinese cages purchased from DHGate, though they likely come from other similar suppliers too. I haven’t seen these specific models reviewed on the forum yet online. They are labeled as A218 ( which is the shorter of the two, though it can be considered medium since there are even shorter versions available; and A223 ( the longest in this family.

First, here is why I chose these two. Previously, I bought another common model known as the A274 ( which features a shaped base ring and a tube-style cage. I could wear it reasonably well and comfortably; the length was appropriate, and while the 50mm base ring was slightly loose, it was fine for me. However, the internal diameter of the A274 is only 32mm. Since my flaccid size is somewhat larger than that, putting it on was a bit of a struggle because everything felt tight inside. Cleaning was difficult due to this tightness and constant contact with the bars.

So I looked for an affordable cage with a wider internal diameter to test if going bigger would work better for me. My plan involves eventually getting something custom-made, but I wanted to experiment first. It wasn’t easy finding Chinese cages over 32mm that weren’t just plated or chromed finishes. Eventually, I found the A218 and A223 models with a 35mm internal diameter, claimed to be stainless steel, featuring an integrated lock which is something I prefer. Initially, I was unsure about the pepper pot design at the ends of these cages, but since they were inexpensive testing devices, it didn’t matter much.

I bought two units: one shorter than my previous cage and one longer. Unfortunately, there isn’t a middle option between them that matches my ideal length exactly. This also allowed me to acquire both 45mm and 50mm base rings to test against nicoftime’s sizing recommendations; sometimes buying a second complete cage is cheaper than just purchasing an extra ring.

The longer A223 arrived first, and my initial reaction was that it looked massive—see the photo comparing it to the A274. It measures 100mm (4”) long, which exceeds what I really need. Its large appearance comes from using 5mm rod for the cage rings, giving them a 45mm outside diameter. In contrast, while the A274 has a 32mm internal diameter, its rings are only 2mm thick, resulting in a 36mm outside diameter. Secondly, I noticed the weight: it weighs 270g compared to the A274’s 170g. The base ring is robust at 8mm diameter, providing good grip without excessive pressure due to the larger contact area.

Despite these initial impressions, I decided to wear it. Once on, it looked like serious equipment and felt comfortable. All welds were ground smooth; some might not look perfect visually, but there were no rough spots. The pepper pot head is quite thick—I estimate 2.5mm or 3mm though I haven’t measured it precisely. The holes are internally chamfered to avoid sharp corners. Using a stocking helped my flaccid member reach almost the end of the cage without being pressed hard against the tip. After some time, I shrunk back slightly.

Erections were painless because the rings have a large diameter and there is no pinching or sharp edges as you expand between them. I wore it to the gym; with supportive underwear, workouts like cycling, cross-training, and treadmill running went well despite its size being barely noticeable under baggy shorts. The only issue arose in the sauna (wearing baggy swim trunks). When sitting on the wooden bench, there was a distinct solid clunk because the device is so curved and long that the pepper pot head hits any surface. Fortunately, I was alone at the time.

The central hole in the end cap is large enough to prevent urination issues, allowing everything to drain properly. The metal has a dull finish rather than being highly polished, confirming it is not chrome plated. The steel shows some magnetic properties, suggesting it might be lower-grade stainless; so far, there are no signs of corrosion, though more time will confirm this fully.

A few days later, the A218 arrived (I bought from two separate suppliers to get the best price for each version). Fortunately, it weighed just over 200g and felt less intrusive. It shares the same 5mm cage rings and 8mm base ring as its sibling. When I put this one on, it was indeed shorter than my A274 (note: text says A275 but context implies comparison to previous), filling up right to the end. This didn’t bother me too much given the benefits of short cages often cited online.

However, after a few hours, I noticed soreness at the tip of my urethra from rubbing against my underwear. The central hole in the pepper pot is large, and being pushed against the cap caused some protrusion. Aside from this, comfort levels were similar to the A223 and acceptable.

After several days of use, switching between different base rings and cages, I found that like many such devices, skin can get pinched in the locks both during fitting and wear due to movement between the cage and ring. I reduced this by tightening the cut rings around the lock barrel to minimize free play.

My conclusion is that these are reasonably comfortable devices. They have typical drawbacks of budget models plus they are heavier than average. I really like their solid appearance; you know you’re locked up with one on. I’m not entirely keen on the pepper pot head in a short cage, but it works okay in the longer version. A length somewhere between these two would be ideal for me—perhaps removing one or two rings from the longer model later.

In terms of using them as cheap sources for testing 35mm internal diameter cages, they have fit the bill perfectly.
