I’m attempting to introduce my wife to the Kink lifestyle and am looking for some advice. A key challenge we face is that she strongly prefers being at the bottom, viewing it through a traditional lens as an always-submissive position. In contrast, I handle much of the decision-making in both work and daily life; despite having a public ‘alpha’ persona, I need downtime to switch off. As a versatile top who has always been kinky, my wife is comfortable with standard vaginal or oral sex. She’s still processing me using butt plugs or dildos since these deviate from conventional roles. (Apologies for the lengthy introduction.)

Here lies the crux: she wants to try being the Dom and recently surprised me by initiating a Dom session. The issue was that, it being her first time exerting so much control, I was ordered not to speak. This worked well until she hit stumbling blocks—like securing leg straps or finding effective positions (though after some coaching and reminders that we are ‘playing’ with no right or wrong answers as long as safety is maintained). Another hurdle is her strong dislike of porn, which makes it hard to show her healthy bondage content for guidance. (Sorry if I’m rambling.)

Since she primarily wants to remain the bottom/sub, would it be better for me to initiate Dom sessions with her to help train her? My only hesitation is that how I like to Dom might not align perfectly with what I enjoy being done to me. Is it odd that I feel a Male Doming a Woman differs from how a Female dominates a male?
