I wanted to paint mine a translucent pink, but I’m struggling to find a coating that adheres well to the plastic and doesn’t wear off after some time. I’ve tested different types on the spare rings, yet none seem to hold up properly. Plus, I noticed the cautionary notes about potential cancer risks.:( It would be great if CB released a clear pink version of their cage, similar to the previous CB-2k model. Any thoughts? Cheers
I think that's a good idea, and I share your wish. You might check out local hobby shops for spray paints formulated for the lexan shells of remote-controlled cars. That specific type is engineered to bond with plastics.
Appreciate the tips. I gave it a shot. The paint is meant for spraying on the interior of plastic r/c shells so you can see through it. It was among my early attempts, but unfortunately, it rubbed off.
Krylon offers a line of spray paints tailored for plastic called Fusion. You might want to try that out.
How about applying a dye suitable for plastic?
Typically, dyes don't penetrate plastics well.
There are indeed special dyes for plastic that do soak in. I wouldn't have brought it up if I hadn't done my homework first. The very first thing I came across was this YouTube video Although they're demonstrating on white components for an r/c car, the method should apply to clear plastic as well. Later, I discovered this post where they use clear plastic pyramids but note that they used the same Rit Dye typically found in tie-dye kits.
