These days I wear my modified PA5000 around the clock, though it usually comes off at night since not many people are eager to relock right after sex (which seems to be a daily routine now:):):) There are some photos on my profile, in case you haven’t seen them yet (nothing new to report). I’ve been considering upgrading the device or building something entirely fresh occasionally. Someone earlier brought up using the PA5000 locking mechanism with other ball capture devices like the CB6000 or 3000. Since I have an extra PA5000 frame, and the CB-6000 Short Cage doesn’t seem to cost more than €60… Well. If I remove the locking mechanism from the PA5000 and drill a suitably sized hole into the 6000 cage, then glue them together, would it work well? Or might another style or type of cage be better as a base? The PA5000 is quite good with my modifications but not perfect. I glued an extension ring to the cage, and it’s slightly too long; this pushes the cage forward, stressing the front side of the piercing, even after I readjusted the locking hook (I cut it from the base, drilled a hole in the base, and glued it back pointing up instead of forwards). I do have concerns about the long-term reliability of the lock since I’ve already experienced issues with it jamming or getting stuck between “open” and “closed.” Something similar but better quality would be nice. It’s a shame there isn’t much else like it on the market:I Any ideas or experiences?
Regarding the long-term reliability of the lock, what I did was spray some "Boeshield T-9" (Amazon or Rockler) and fill the lock as much as possible. I let it soak in for a bit, then blew it out with compressed air, wiped it down, and allowed it to dry. I do this for all my locks exposed to the elements (like the padlock on my shed and my CB/CD locks) without any hesitation or failure. Boeshield T-9 is a rust preventative developed by Boeing for aerospace use. If you do woodworking, it's also great for tools because the lubricant won't transfer from the tools to your wood and ruin your finish like Silicon does. If you're only concerned about protecting locks, Napa Auto Parts sells a silicon spray (part #8300) that works well. The silicon spray is more of a lubricant with some protectant properties, while Boeshield is more of a protectant with some lubricant qualities. You can use both around the house and car too (hinges, rollers, etc.), but be careful with the silicon spray since it might affect things you plan on painting later. Periodically filling the lock with oil (sewing machine oil or 3-in-1 -- I find 3-in-1 smells a bit so I don't prefer it) and letting it drain back out also does a decent job of protecting against corrosion and keeping it operating smoothly.
