Introductions discussion

Hi everyone. I haven’t visited the site in a while because of all my work, which is something I’ll never complain about—I truly love it … Still, I dropped by today and even went to the chat room, saying hello two or three times. There were others chatting there who didn’t offer so much as a greeting or ask how I was doing; wow, that stung … It makes me wonder if I should have returned at all, or perhaps just delete this site from my computer entirely?????????????//////////

Who was in the chatroom? Were they old friends who would have noticed your absence? Or random strangers who saw no profile picture and no bio info? Perhaps they didn't want to "risk" chatting with someone who might be seen as an "observer" (you know the type... those one-handed typists). Maybe try filling in some blanks on your profile, and you'll receive better responses next time. Or, since this is a FORUM, use the forum sections to discuss whatever it was you wanted to talk about with these folks.

Hey, there are always people chatting with each other, and someone new might not be around at the same moment. For them it's fine; it may seem impolite, but it is a harsh world out there, so come on, you can handle that.

I understand what both of you are saying. Yes, I don't have a picture on my profile because we stopped coming by as often between wife and me, but still not even a simple "hi welcome in" or even just being told to get lost ...... That would have been cool too.

I'll speak from my own experience in the chat rooms. I've sometimes walked in, said "Hi," and gotten no response. It turns out those people are simply not at their keyboards. I do that too sometimes. The other day, during mid-chat, my old cat had an "incident" (you don't want to hear all the details), so I went afk for 15 minutes to clean up the carpet. Other times, when I enter chat, things are QUITE busy. I try to say hello as people arrive and leave, but frankly, I sometimes miss them... especially if I'm in a rapid-fire conversation (or two) with others in the room. So, don't take it personally. Come into the rooms, hang out, say hello when there seems to be a lull (but not total absence), and see what happens. mikecb
