People keep describing what I want as helping out, and it is not

Posted as not_helping_out, 1 September 2026, from the city centre

Wants
instructions that are not softened into requests
Experience
Two arrangements, one of five months and one of six years.
Around
the city centre, Manchester

Every time I explain this somebody translates it into helping out, as though I am offering to lend a hand when convenient. It is not that, and the difference is the whole of the point. A favour is a thing I choose to do when I feel like doing it. What I want is an order I did not choose, on a day I did not pick, kept on an evening when I would rather be doing almost anything else.

Forty seven, the city centre, facilities management, divorced, no children, and a great deal of free time I currently waste entirely.

I have had two arrangements. The first was really favours with a nicer word attached, and it collapsed in five months because there was nothing holding it up on a bad week. The second had proper standing orders, a written standard, and consequences that were dull and real, and it ran six years.

So what I am after is a woman comfortable giving an instruction without softening it. Please and thank you are fine. Would you mind is not, because would you mind hands the decision straight back to me, and I have asked specifically not to have it.

No money in either direction and nothing for hire, which on this board has to be said out loud. What I do not want is to be asked each time whether it still suits me. If it stops suiting me I will say so.

Where this one puts you on the route

Offering to be useful is a commitment measured in hours a week, not in enthusiasm. These three run from what that costs to what the first meeting looks like.

  1. 01 What a dynamic actually involves, shape by shape
  2. 02 The venue types that work, with honest odds
  3. 05 The first meeting, and why protocol stays at home
