I have a car, a clean licence and an unreasonable amount of free time since I dropped to four days last year. Out where I am, everything is twenty minutes away by road and impossible without one, and I have noticed how much of a week that eats for people who do not drive.
Forty nine, the commuter belt, nine years in this. Two arrangements, both built almost entirely around doing things rather than being anything. Collections, deliveries, the tip, the garden centre, the station run at an hour nobody sane wants to do it, and the long dull drive to see a relative that somebody has been putting off for a month.
What I want is to be the person who takes that whole category off somebody's hands. Standing instructions, a boot I keep clean, and a rule that I do not need a reason for any of it.
I should say the thing that has caused problems before. I am not good company in a car and I do not want to be. I will drive an hour in silence quite happily and I would rather be told to than have to make conversation. Two people have found that strange. One found it perfect and that arrangement ran five years.
I do not want anything physical at all, I do not want to be introduced to anybody, and none of my time is for sale, which I mention only because somebody once tried to press money into my hand at the end of a long day and it ruined the afternoon.
