One standing job, every week, done properly, for years if she likes

Posted as thursday_shop, 5 September 2026, from the south east

Wants
one recurring duty rather than a whole arrangement at once
Experience
Four years, one arrangement, one weekly duty that ran all of it.
Around
the south east, London

For four years I did one thing. I did the week's shopping for a woman every Thursday. I had a list, I had preferences I had learned, and I put it all away in her kitchen in the order she wanted it. That was the entire arrangement. It ended when she moved north last winter and I have missed it every Thursday since.

I am aware that as a personal advertisement this is not thrilling. But I have thought hard about what I actually want and it is this: one duty, recurring, done well enough that it stops being noticed and starts being assumed.

Thirty seven, the south east. I work in something with unpredictable hours, which means a single fixed obligation suits me far better than an arrangement with many moving parts. I never missed a Thursday in four years, including the week my father was ill, because I had asked somebody to cover the job rather than skip it, which she told me later was the moment she stopped checking up on me.

So: one job. It does not have to be shopping. Anything that needs doing on a schedule and would be better done by somebody who cares whether it is right.

I do not want a scene, I do not want to be present while she does anything else, and I have no interest in anything with money in it. I want a task, a standard, and a very long time.

Where this one puts you on the route

Offering to be useful is a commitment measured in hours a week, not in enthusiasm. These three run from what that costs to what the first meeting looks like.

  1. 01 What a dynamic actually involves, shape by shape
  2. 02 The venue types that work, with honest odds
  3. 05 The first meeting, and why protocol stays at home
