Los Angeles rewards persistence and punishes performance, and a man looking here should work out which of the two he is doing. Deference is easy to act for one evening in a city full of people who act for a living, and the women worth finding have watched several men do exactly that. Distance handles the rest of the sorting. An hour of driving each way settles fairly quickly whether somebody meant what he wrote. Expect a search of months, and expect a good part of it to be conducted from a stationary car.
